I am debating weather to go 19. 5" or 22. 5" wheels and tires on my 03 dually. I just talked to a tow truck driver yesterday that is running 225/70 19. 5 Michelin XDE mud and snows. He said they howl like crazy and they already started cupping on the front of the F550 with only 3,000 miles on them. He said they wear like crap. I was under the impression Michelins were the best. (they are by far, the most expensive I've seen). I was going to go with a Michelin XDE in 265/70R 19. 5 (34. 5"). But I don't want to spend lots of money on a noisy tire that will only last slightly longer than my stock wheels.

This makes me consider a true highway tire 255/70R 22. 5 (37"tall). My only concern is the weight at 155lb per wheel/tire plus an additional 35lbs per corner for the adaptors. If anyone is using this combo, how is the extra rotating mass effecting your acceleration and breaking. Did your fuel milage go up because of your lower RPMs, or did it go down because of the extra rotating mass? Thanks,

Garry

There's a few people running 22. 5's, but I think the 19. 5's are a bitter fit, appearence wise. I've not had much luck running anything but a rib tire in the front. I used to run the old Michelin XZT front and rear. They never howled, but I only got 30,000 miles out of the fronts before they were cupped so bad I had to replace them. The rears lasted almost 80,000. When I bought the 19. 5's on my truck now from another member they had Michelin XZE's all the way around. Bad for the rear in wet weather. I'm now running Continnental HDR's in the rear and and HSR's in the front (245/70-19. 5)

Hope this info helps.

Thanks Jeff,

How do you like the continentals? Have you had them long enough to see how they wear? I would prefer to go 19. 5"s since they are lighter and not quite as tall. I will only go with 19. 5"s if I can have a long lasting tire(100,000+ miles)

They're wearing pretty well, but it's all in how you drive it. I drive hard and still get 80-100,000 miles out of a set. You should be able to get at least that.
