Hi guys,

Just curious to know if anyone with an auto transmission is running an inline, auxilary trans fluid filter ?

The one I'm considering is by Perma Cool, and uses a typical spin-on oil filter to full flow filter the ATF for our auto transmissions. They claim that the factory, internal 'filters' are more like screens, and allow smaller particles to pass through that eventually clog up the trans internals and cause problems.

It's found here: http://www.perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page25.html

The vehicle I'm referring to is a 1996 Ram Van with the 318 engine & 46 RE trans, which should be a kissin cousin to the 47 & 48 RE's the trucks use. (My 97 CTD has a manual trans... . ).

I just figured to ask here 'cause I know a sizeable number of you guys have the auto trans on your CTD and it's quite possible you've already tried an external trans oil filter kit.

thanks, take care

Have had a BD mounted on driverside frame rail just to the rear of the trans for a couple of years now. Put it in when I got my new trans. Change filter twice a year cause I don't drive alot of miles anymore. I am happy with it and I know it can't hurt to have more filtration

I'd been running an external filter on my (now former) Pace Arrow motor home that has a 454 and a turbo 400 transmission. Worked very well - or at least I assume it did as I never had a problem with the transmission, while you are at it you should add a temp gauge and a good cooler.
