The backspacing is 4. 25 inches, stock is 6. 25 inches. they are going to stick out, and worse, cause suspension and steering issues if you load the truck very heavy.

I've been on Rickson's website where they sell their wheels and Visions. Visions are cast and stick out further than Rickson. This EBay price is much lower than I was expecting to see. Also, they say they will mount and balance free. Make sure they are not using balancing beads. On one company's website that sells balancing beads, it states that the only time they don't recommend using their beads is when putting 19. 5" tire/wheels on a 2500/3500 pickup!!! Something to do with the fact that the truck suspensions aren't made for that tire/wheel size. I was quite surprised at this also. If you don't believe me, I will find it for you and copy it to this post.

Here it is: http://www.innovativebalancing.com/ProblemsWith19.5_22.5.pdf

Other people say that the beads work fine in their 19. 5s, I'm just pointing out what the seller's site says.

So who's running the Rickson steel wheels and how do they perform? What about the extra unsprung wheel weight over stock wheels? I was thinking of the 7. 5 wheel with the 245 wide tires

I run the Vision DRW heavy haulers, alum outers, steel inners, GREAT wheels !!! I am running 245 tires. I have a friend running them on his SRW, he feels the same way, he loves them. He is running 265 tires. All I can say is that I have had NO problems with them whatsoever, I have had NO steering or suspension problems either. I haul heavy loads all the time, just made my hauling WAY BETTER over the stock 17's, WAY BETTER. I have a 1988 Ford Dually, I put a set on the Ford after getting them on my Dodge. I would do these again on any truck I own in the future.

I worked on a truck about 2 weeks ago with the aluminum visions. It was a srw 4x4,they did not extend beyond the wheel wells but I am going to guess they weighed very close to what my 37" Toyos. The upper ball joints had about 1/4 play. It was a company truck and the driver had no clue how many miles on the tires

There's a 3rd gen, dark blue,cqlb 3500 w/shell, 4x4 running around in North County wearing 265-70-19. 5's w/black steel wheels. Great looking truck.
I saw it parked one day.
The backspacing appeared perfect. I can't imagine what that combo weighs.
I've never managed to speak to the owner to ask where the wheels were sourced.

With a can of paint I can make stock wheels look aftermarket. Not the same thing as a rim with 4. 25" of back spacing on axle that is stock at 6. 25". It is noticeable. A 245 tire would probaby just fit in the wheel well but it looks off.

The backspacing difference of the Visions is adding 2" of pry to already borderline axle components. Add to that the extra reciprocating weight it is cause for concern.

If these trucks were meant to run these rims and tires they would come factory with them, they don't for a reason. They can be added but it will show in the weak areas.

I used to do business off shore in Turkey and had a wheel manufacturer there build me a 3 sets of 19. 5 for dually's and 2 sets for SRW trucks... they were all installed on 3500's... the ride is harder but tire life is close to 100K miles on the duallys running a full highway tread and 60K miles on SRW running TOYO's all seasons...

I wanted a higher level of safety and I feel I have that with this set up... I also use the same re-cap as UPS uses on their trucks (19. 5") on the rear... . to date these tires have 85K miles and look like they'll go another 10K miles...

For my 05, I also have a full set of studded snow for the rear on wheels...

I'm very pleased... to date... we've not had a tire problem with either the new tires, (Bridgestone, Michelin) or the re-caps... other than a screw or nail here and there...

Hope this helps. .

Motorhead,

I'm running a set of Rickson wheels on my 04 SRW, and I love them. Running empty,I did'nt really notice any difference from stock. I bought a set of 5 smoothies wheels and had the tires match mounted to the wheels so they run smooth. Loaded, I noticed a big difference. There is no sway under a heavy load . I don't know about what kind of milage I'll get out of them, but so far, I am very happy with them. This is only the second set of tires on this 04, I bought the truck in 12 with only 18K miles on it and it still had the factory tires and wheels.

I've had Vision 19. 5's on my truck for three years now. Not a problem to speak of. I noticed a huge difference towing with these tires opposed to the stock wheels. They feel very sturdy and my stock set up when towing heavy felt like i was going down the drag strip with slicks running 10. 80's. I have 245 tires on mine and my buddy has 265's on his. Mine have 134,000 miles on them so far and are close to the end. Will be replacing with 265 Michellins this time. My friend has the Yokohama Y303's. If anyone is interested i can take a pic or two tomorrow and post.

SShafranko, I would really appreciate some pictures. Can you show a picture looking down the side of the truck to show if the wheels stick out? Also who mounted your tires if other than Rickson? Did they jump at all? I drove a lot of single axle UPS vehicles with 19. 5's that would go down the road with a constant thump thump thump like the tires weren't mounted right on the rims. Thanks, Chris

No problem. I will take some pics today and post tonight. Mine rode totaly smooth until my front end wiped out recently. I need new ball joints, u joints, tie rods etc. This will be my second time doing everything except i never changed lower ball joints yet. I have 245,000 miles so i can't complain i've been lucky. One thing i would recommend is to get a good set of tires. Don't buy cheapy chinese or whatever brands because you may run into the problem you are speaking of. I'm not sure i don't buy cheap tires i'm just guessing.

I forgot to mention i also have the centromatic wheel balancers, but i never really tested them to see if they actually work by taking them off and noticing a difference.

The silver truck is 265 tires and the charcoal is 245's. Let me know if you need anything else. Also sorry if i missed it but why do you want to go to this set up? I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a reason. My reason was because i pull a dump trailer and various other heavy trailers and they are much better for that and also i frequent a landfill which i used to get flat tires every other time i went there with the stock set up and with these i pulled framing nails out of them and haven't had a leak in three years:)

Yep, they stick out too far and make it look like a Chevy wannebe dune hopper. As many problems as these fornt ends have that just adds to the issues. Not enough back space to make it worth while.

your right better off sticking with the balloons, probably less problems in the long run. That's one of the reasons i say don't do it unless you have a good reason. It does change the ride considering your going from a 6 ply piece of rubber to a 14 ply tire. Also weight should be taken into consideration. These things weigh a ton i can't imagine how heavy the steel rims would be.
