I was curious if anyone has seen a 3rd gen V-10 powered Ram? In my area, you probably see 10 2nd gen CTDs for every V-10, but I have not seen a single V-10 3rd gen, seen a few 2500/3500 hemis, but not a single V-10. I assume the V-10 is still avaliable, but unless they sell a whole lot better in other markets, I can't imagine DC continuing to offer 'em.

I saw one this week. It was the first one I saw. The badge on the front fender was what caught my eye. Most dually's have the big "C" but this one had the "V10". In view of current gas prices and no relief coming real soon, I wonder if he regrets not getting the truck with the big "C"?

Now that you mention it, I have never seen one. Every time I see a 3G heavy I look at the front fender, alot of hemis around here, but a quite a few with the "big C"

2003 was the last year. Since they knew they were discontinuing the V-10 they probably quit building the V-10's in 2002 and let them run out sometime during the 2003 run-they missed the planned date for the last 305/555 by about 2-3 weeks.

All the 3rd gen 2500/3500 trucks I have seen have been Cummins or Hemi-except, I think I have seen one V-10.

'03 was last year for V-10 in 2500 and 3500. Now only available in aluminum version in 1500 SRT10 or Viper.

Real good engines, sorry to see them go.

Oh yeah, I forgot I had found a new one sitting on a dealers lot in Loveland,Co a few weeks ago it was an '03

Andy

Just rechecked and their web site says they still have it:p

There's a 3rd gen 2500 QC 2wd V10 in Belen, NM. I see it all the time. What makes it unique (besides the V10) is that it is a two-tone blue with driftwood, but the two tone is a center band like my old '97.

That's the only one I've seen

I've only seen one 03 V10 and it surprised me as I was passing it on the freeway. Was expecting to see the C. I remember it because I thought they had discontinued it and the second thing I thought was what a dumb $%&. I just can't see how you can justify it over a Cummins. To each his own, I guess.

Can you say $5000. 00?

Thats about the difference in cost.

My Dad has a '95 with V-10. He gets 15-16 mpg and he's pushing 300K miles with only regular maintenence.

I think it can be justified.

I still love my cummins better!!:p

I have a 97 V-10 noe great truck and great motor. I've got a 600 on order now. It's been sitting waiting to be loaded on a rail car since last week. Well that's another story.

My V10 always used a little water but now at 120,000 I have to put about a quart of water in a week. Did you have similar experince? I've heard about porous heads castings. I've had the colling system checked three times. Each time dealer says it's tight. Mike San Diego

I work with a guy who bought a used V10 2500 2" lift 4x4 and he gets 9miles to the gallon and drives mostly freeway back and forth to work. He got a smokin deal on it. He can't get any mods for it and is sorry he didn't spend the $ for a cummins. He's never claimed it was fast. He's owned both fords and chevys.

Its not fast, the V-10 is designed for torque like the diesels. If you want speed the V-8s are designed for speed not the V-10s. Worked for a European shop in college and the Mercedes V10 and jags V10 were marketed for luxury smooth speed for highway speeds. Not 0-60 or 1/4 mile times. They never marketed them as speedsters. More is not always better and we tend to correlate the number of cylinders with speed but that is not the case. Of course, the exception to this rule is the viper engine which is designed for speed, but the ram v10 is not the same engine as the viper engine.

Exactly my experience. At 45000 miles, dealer claimed a pinhole leak in the radiator, and replaced (for free - even though it was out of warranty because this issue had been documented from new).

Didn't know about the head issue at the time. I miss that truck sometimes. Very reliable. Hoping my new Dodge is just as great.

I had a '96 2500 4x4 w/a stick and man that was a fun truck to drive. It really turned some heads with the Gibson exhaust too. I also had a '96 w/a 5. 9 and the 8. 0L was way faster. Glad I'm not filling it up now though!!!!:--)

I've seen one 3rd gen V-10. I was so surprised when I saw it that I posted a question here about did they even make one!! It was a silver sport quad shortbed 2wd. I've heard the V-10s had problems with cracking heads. There must have been some reason DC dropped the motor. Without it, there's a W-I-D-E gap between the standard 2500/3500 hemi and the CTD. I can't imagine what a pig the hemi must be in a 3500 dually! I've seen one of those also! I had an '03 1500 hemi. Just hated it!! Traded it in on my '04 CTD. Had a 98. 5 CTD before the hemi. Proves that once you go diesel, you don't go back to gas!! JOIBO!
