Cummins/auto in a newer body suburban 2000+ Anyone done it? Opinions?

Will a 05 Cummins work with a ford 4r100 auto transmission?

Researching a diesel swap for my wrangler. The 3. 3L cummins turbo diesel looks like the best bet. Does anyone have any experience with this engine. I think they have been widely used in skid steers and industrial applications of that nature. If anyone knows about this engine what can you tell me about it, would it be a good choice. And the most important question of all. Transmission capabilities. What can I hook to this, nv4500, gm trannys.

I think I could get 30 mpg with no effect off road. Possible?

Work has two of them. One in an Onan generator and the other in a Lincoln welder. Don't know much about them but I have heard that the bellhousing mountings are different than on the 3. 9/5. 9 so transmission mounting may be an issue. I believe someone here was trying to do swap of the 3. 3 into something and was looking for a bellhousing. Don't recall if he found one or not.

The 3. 3 is different when it comes to bolting up the bellhousing adapter from a 4bt 3. 9 or 5. 9 6bt. Due to the growing popularity of repowers, I would willing to help mock up and design a bellhousing adapter for this engine. The biggest issue is going to be getting the engine Emissions legal for street use. I don't know of any of the 3. 3 engines being compliant.

I will be repowering my Jeep in the near future with a 3. 9 4bt. It will fit without issue, and if you go with a nv-4500 transmission, it is a pretty easy conversion parts wise. (still requires alot of custom work, but not the added headache of bellhousing adapter plates which for a single conversion is VERY time consuming and EXPENSIVE) Developing a CAD program to allow for multiple adapters to be turned out in the future is a different story. I have several groups of friends and associates who would want the adapter, so I can justify the cost in the long run. Just need to get the engine and transmission together.

Let me know how serious you are, and I'd be happy to help out. I had a gm bellhousing adapter scanned into a CAD program already from when I worked with Kenny at Autoworld to get a custom adapter designed for a similar application. We had a Water Jet shop scan the adapter plate into a CAD program, This is only half the work though, as I will now need the pattern off of the 3. 3 block.

I would be VERY intrested in an adapter plate, I think a wrangler with a 3. 3 would be *****in cool. I don't have the engine or transmission so I hate to say I really cannot help you in the process. Keep me posted on any progress. I bet in the future there would be a growing deamnd for a part like this, I think alot of people are thinking more positivtly about DIESEL POWER now and I also think that maby a 3. 9L is out of alot of people price range, I know its out of mine. A 3. 3L is only like 3250$. Oo.

The 3. 3 may be that price for a complete engine, I seem to remember someone talking about this in a previous thread. The cost seems low to me too though. I doubt the accesories that you'll need will be included in that. Most likely this is a price for a power pack engine replacement that will require accessory swap overs such as alternator, starter, (not to mention no power steering or vacuum pump since these engines are used in industrial applications from what I've read so far). The addition of a power steering pump will be several hundred in itself I bet.

A 3. 9 4bt engine can be found for $1500 in an older p-30 bodied van, I've found them for less in fair shape once in a while. The idea of considering a 3. 3 a cheaper solution is not a good reason to go with it, I am sure it will be over $5000 to get one equipped if bought new for a vehicle, not to mention non emissions compatible.
