I own a 99 Ford f-350 diesel with the 6 speed and used it to tow trailers for our business, It had a chip in it for its only performance upgrade, the chip was installed in the truck for 35,000 miles during that time I had the 6 speed rebuilt twice, after the 2nd rebuild I decided the chip was too much for the six speed when towing and sold the chip -- no more problems after that --- I am also running a 2001 dodge with a 6 speed with a egde EZ and am concerned about the 6 speed holding up with my foot in the throttle for hours at a time when towing, I should have learned my lesson the first time but the temptation for more power when towing is too great --- anyone out there with experience on this subject please reply

EZ+275's

My 6spd went out at about 10,000miles. Jumping out of 3rd on acceleration. Had not towed and was bone stock. New one under warranty. .

I have pulled a little over 7,000 miles, with a GCVW of 20,300 to

21,300(weighed). with an EZ and 275 injectors. all's well so far.

Will see how it goes this summer.

The trailer is 12'9" tall... GVW 15000. It has not been over 12300GVW(weighed).

160,000 mi. now, its had 300+hp for 140,000 of those. The transmission was replaced at 29,000 because brg. was out of reverse, no problems since. I have used Amsoil Series 3000 5 w 30 in it all this time also. Put it in the new transmission at 29,000mi. I deliver 30 to 40 ft. 5ers all over the USA. Had a Luke Pro Gold clutch installed with new transmission, its still there, no problems.

I got it from Van Haisley in Indiana, I'm sure someone knows how to get in touch with him. If not I can dig up my past records, and may be able to find it.

Just curious. I know at some point I will have to replace my clutch and it sounds like a good one. Thanks for your assistance!:)

Rashwor, I don't doubt that I could trash my clutch. I have never reved it up and dropped the clutch. I don't abuse it, but pull it hard. 22 to 26,000 GCVW. It has never slipped on me. I was told it is 50 to 75% stronger than stock clutch which is a Luke clutch. If it ever fails me, I'll go with a SB, unless something better comes along. Noone but me has driven my trk. , except a DC tech. , and SlowKwurt, and I doubt that will happen again!!!! :--)

EZ + 275's

I believe that is the general consensus on this board, that the EZ by itself will be fine and will not damage the transmission but that any further upgrades/additional power should require an upgrade to the transmission to handle it.

By the way, I haven't thanked Dodge yet today for the *&#$^%^%&(*( piece of junk transmission that these vehicles come equipped with out of the factory!

Zman, we are talking about the 6spd. manual, I think it is a he!! of good transmission!! I wish SlowKwurt would put the pic's on here that we took of the inside of mine when he installed the Fast Coolers, the size of the gears was quite impressive, same as the size of our RODS. ;) :D

I don't know if this means anything, but the 6 speed weighs 150 lbs more than the 5 speed. I think part of that is the steel case instead of aluminum.

The 6speed is the strongest of anything available from dodge. Cant get much stronger.

After getting some miles on mine, it works excellent. Tow 18k alot, and it feels pretty tough. I just hate the sound they make in 5th gear pulling a grade, sounds like a spun bearing, but they say its normal & they all do it. Guess its just the gears freewheeling inside the case.

You might want to check-out Fastcoolers

I was suprised (when I crawled under my truck after a long highway pull) to find that the transmission was the hottest component under the truck. I thought I would give it the touch test, and I discovered that the transmission was quite a bit hotter than the rear axle. The transmission was too warm to put your hand on, but the rear axle felt like it was 50 degrees cooler. I opted for some Fastcoolers to bring the temps down. I figured the added capacity wouldn't hurt either.

I had a early90's psd , when they 1st cam out, smoked that trans at 20K, with no mods,

I don't know about CTDR standards, I took a vow to never shift gears again
