Anyone tried adding acetone in their tank?

I was talking to an old guy this morning and we got to talking about old machinery. Apparently he was adding a couple shots of acetone to each tank of diesel on his old line skidder. I am curious, has anyone heard of doing such a thing? Has anyone one tried this on their truck? Also wouldn't it rob the diesel of some its lubricity?
 
From what I read, a diesel wanted something like 1oz per 10 gallons, and gasoline engines wanted 3-4oz per 10 gallons.



I can't see a noticable change at 1oz per 10 gallons.



Since I have a conversion, and no overhead display for mileage, I hand calculate every tank. It ran 18. 5 on the 500 mile trip from Montana to here, and 17. 5 to 18. 5 every tank since (for mixed daily driving). When I've towed, it's less (13-15, depending).



I am running Power Service and Marvel Mystery Oil (PS/MMO), and most of the time throw a few gallons of BioD in to quiet the CP3. I'm guessing that with all the other stuff, the Acetone can't really add much?

I tried it. It destroyed the measuring cup I used to pour it in the tank. So I was a little worried about what else it would do. Cleared up the smoke a little. I was also running biodiesel so I didn't notice much difference.

I tried it too on my 95 12 valve and it did clear up the smoke quite a bit, but I did not notice any change in milage. :{
 
It works wonders if you sniff the first 2 oz's. Then what ever the rest of it does you can just make up and believe it yourself
