Howdy all,

I know, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing in the hands of an amature #ad
but I am very curious. I was just browins the Holset website, and I happened to find a listing of all their different turbos and a graph showing their various turbos and what HP range Holset lists them as bein valid for.

Since I am seriously thinking I'd like to get Godzilla very familiar with the 400 HP level, I figured I would likely upgrade to an HX40 at some point. Imagine my surprise at seeing the HX40 listed as being suggested by Holset for use at 250 - 375 HP! I know there are some TDR members who make significantly more than 375 HP, but I have heard almost nothing at all of anyone using anything larger than the HX40. I remember hearing of an H2E, but I don't know what that one is. I don't remember seeing it on the Holset site.

So I'm just curious to know if any of you are using any turbos larger than the HX40, and if so, what HP are you making?? I believe someone once told me Nowel has the HX40 on the Red Rocket, and he is at 600HP!

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
The thing to consider about the Holset site is,the engines these other turbos fit have a lot more displacement. Which is why they suggest the horsepower levels they do. The HX-40 is from an engine with around 100 or so cu. in. larger displacment than our 5. 9's. These turbos will flow a lot more air, at the expense of low RPM power, in most cases.

I believe that HVAC used an HX40 for his 600 hp run, but I am also fairly sure that he now has an H2 on his truck. I read that Marco was putting some kind of varaible vane adjustable turbo on. I am in no way an expert but twins is the only way to go to get enough air to run efficiently a bigger turbo sacrifices too much loww end but the dual stage setup gives you that all important bottom end and the top end we want with NO DRUGS only #2 and air baby checkout the pull tractor in the new TDR issue that is ours and it is all fuel and air BABY #ad

The HX-40 is the cheapest and easiest way to add hp. Even though alot of people are pushing it past it,s designed limits,it,s still the best all around single turbo set up. The H2E is a nice choice for people that have enough fuel to drive it. It realy helps hp on the top end. Like Wiz said,2 turbos are better. My truck has scary low end power. It spools up faster than a HX-35 and can way out flow a H2E. I,m still test out the limits of my system but so far there is no draw backs. I need to get a new clutch in my truck to fully test the upper limits of this system. So far the max boost is 58psi sustained why,ll the clutch is slipping. I,ve seen as high as 62psi for a second before the clutch starts to slip and boost will fall to 55psi why,ll the clutch is slipping. I think that twins are the best way to go for any hp truck. It would make the ultimate towing set up. Instant boost to get a trailer going with enough air to keep EGT,s under control. The biggest problem is the cost. It,s not cheap to build a twin kit.

hey sportbike email me I would like to talk to you further about this setup I like the pictures I don't see how that k&n will hold up though

Thanks for the advice Wiz. Thats the filter that I was using on my H2E set up. I already figured out that the filter isn,t strong enough. The right side has been collapsing under full load.

Andy,I already tried one on my ISB. It,s a big hp set up for someone that is not willing to invest the money for twins. I used a HX-55W with a 19cm exh housing. I have a ported ATS manifold with adaptor. It also comes with a 5" down pipe. Wastegate is set for 60psi.

Sportbike...

I think we need to change your handle to

"The Turbo Daddy"

Geeeez!

That ISB of yours has seen more huffers than Heffner and Wild Bill combined!

I'm with you on the HX40 and Majestic. Seems like more than adequate overkill for the street w/o having to start worrying about lowering compression with thicker headgaskets or piston changes.

My cruise control works the same as it did when the truck was stock. Absolutely no difference.

How does the housing have so much effect on how the turbo performs? I can hit 1000 easy, without my EZ. After I add injectors to my EZ would a larger housing cool it off?
