im sure they wont recomend or deny the need for additional filtration. but with the high pressure common rail system i have been hearing rumors that even the smallest particles are causing damage to the fuel system due to the high pressure.
 
You might get a fairly good handle on the GPM required by the engine then size the filter accordingly.



I use a RACOR 690T (90 GPM, 10um), OEM is 45 GPM, 10um I think. I just 2x the OEM to be SURE I was not creating a restriction. RACOR because that is what they do best of any of the commercial companies - filter (my opinion obviously, flame wars not needed).

the 690 series has a 90 GPH rating as apposed to the the other which is rated at 25gpm or 1500gph... . yes i know seems like alot...
