I have an '03 2500 and am looking at replacing the front drive shaft u-joints. I want to go with precision, but every where I look I get part numbers from 235 to 295. I want the super strength greaseable joints. Dont know which ones to use for sure.

Thanks for any help.

I attempted to rebiult my front drive shaft last spring. When I took apart the double carden joint something went flying across the shop and I never found it. I got the part I needed but I was not able get it changed out. If you need one the part number is Precision 617.

I have several u-joints laying around the house but I don't know which ones are the ones you need.

I just replaced my driveshaft u-joints with Precisions. According to the guys where I purchased them, customers have been returning other brands purchased for the Ram trucks because they won't fit. The Precisions went in just fine. It took a hydraulic press to get the old ones out and the new ones in. I looked in the service manual and it calls for using the press. I think all Precisions have the grease fitting.

My post might have been misleading, I am looking for the precision part number for the front drive shaft u joints that are the super strength and greaseable, is it the 235's or the 295's?

Thanks.

The 235 is the Super Strength joint for the shaft at the axle end. The 270 is the Super Strength for the double cardan unit at the transfer case end.

I also plan on doing the U-joint replacement, there are 3 joints, so you use the 235 at the axle end, and the 270 at the transfer case end, what about the center one, is that also a 270?, I thought the Precision #295 was used on all 3 front U-joints, thanks Ron

Both the double cardan joints are 270s, according to the Precision catalog. I haven't replaced mine yet, but that's what I've got sitting on the shelf ready for when the time comes.

The "U" joints in my 03 have all been replaced at least once. For a while there was no aftermarket greasable U joints so the ungreasable ones had to be used.

This past year or so I have replaced several with precision greasable ones. The front axle ends being two of them. So far so good. Sorry I can't remember the part #'s. I do remember they were very beefy and very pricy. About $100. per joint.

These ones should last many years as long as they are regularly greased.

I just replaced all 8 u-joints on my 2005 with 48RE trans. I used all Precision joints, here is what I found out, the #264 joint is for the front axle's, they fit perfect, on the front driveshaft the one at the differental end is a #235, the factory original does not have clips, it's installed with a glue substance, the #235 uses clips inside the yoke, they fit, but you have to grind down the clips a little, the 2 joints at the Cardan are #270, installing these are a real PITA, you have to work both of them a little together, because of the ball connection in the Cardan, with the #270 the clips are to thick, to make them work they have to be ground paper thin, or use epoxy on the ends to lock them in, the clips are on the outside of the yoke, I used epoxy, I will never have to replace them again, and if I did it still could be taken apart, then the rear driveshaft, with the 48RE long bed I used #330's, all 3 locations, this is a big heavy driveshaft, the #330's fit fine, but about half of th clips have to be ground flatted to have them fit. If you press, or pound them in, you can get the clips on, but the joint will be to tight, and grease won't be able to pass the end caps, I greased mine on the bench to make sure all 4 corners received grease. In my opinion the Precision joints are all, except the 264's a close fit, it would be nice if they made one that was an exact fit.
