Looking at Royal Purple as a product to use once I reach the 10,000-12,000 mile mark. Hear alot about Amsoil and other synthetics but not much about Royal Purple what do you guys think about it?
I have used their product in many engines and have always been very pleased. Great quality, darn high price. My bet is the reason you do not hear much about it is because oil changes take so much oil, it is almost cost prohibitive. That said, I was told that oil specifically for a diesel is a lot higher in detergents to keep a diesel clean.
I run royal purple in my CTD, have been since 18k miles. . both in transmission and engine. It is expensive but at 10k to change it's a little less than once a year. Also I put in a oilguard 1 micron filter, the oil stays clean although it does turn black but with little or no soot. . I'm happy with it and intend to stay with it.
One thing that I didn't mention is that I picked up on average about 1. 5mpg the truck now has just short of 40K miles, I tow a rock crawler Jeep on a flat bed, total weight about 6k.
