Getting ready to change my oil after 40k miles of use (Amsoil with bypass and samples). Test still come back ok for continued use but the TBN is starting to drop near the bottom of my comfort level, plus I'm driving to florida and back next week (from michigan:{).

Anyway, is anyone using Seafoam as an engine oil flush to clean out sludge/varnish etc after long change intervals? Is is even needed or is there anything else out there I should use, or just skip it and change the oil like normal? Truck has just under 100k (will be about 101k when I get back from trip).

I dont have any oil leaks (yet) but worry about an engine flush type product "causing" one (or some) by cleaning out the gunk too good, LOL. Any worry of this?

Any other ideas, suggestions? Not a newbie to oil changes and maintainence stuff on my truck just curious if this is needed or even suggested. Really dont want to cause more problems especially as I'll be travelling with my wife and kids.

Thanks

oil flush

ATF will accomplish a good flush, drop-about 2 qts out add trans fluid let idle for 5 minutes drain oil. Trans fluid has alot of detergent in it to keep your trans clean. Right Old Man Bob?Add two qts of trans fluid

have to look into seafoam I have heard some bad on seafoam for the fuel side,( had to due with a element that it has not good for lube properties) if I remember right. but not sure on the oil, I have used atf before and also have used mystery oil, atf was used on other engines never my CTD. just marvels mystery oil ran it for about 150mile trip. but maybe more will comment on the atf makes sense there are alot of cleaners in it. I wonder if you should have the engine warmed up first and then put in the 2 qts. maybe grumpy will explain more.

not sure here, i believe seafoam is an alchohol base where mystery oil is peterolemum base- it stills smell like is has some alchohol in it but oil type feel to it. why would you want to thin out the oil any way to flush. if that is the case run a change of regular dino for a few days to clear it out. if your samples stayed good with no metal spikes i wouldn't worry about.

i have never used seafoam in my dodge, but have in my ford. different animal though the gasser... .....

copy thanks guys, did some more googling last night and I'm gonna skip the flush all together and just drain and refill as usual.

Thanks

Why flush the engine if changing oil /filter at regular intervals? Haven't seen oil pan on any of my Dodge trucks, but I've always had clean inards on my vehicles. If I ever had contaminated oil, might drain, run and flush it with some Rotela or other dino before adding Amsoil back in. Just checking when flushing engine is needed.

If you are using a quality oil and filter and your oil studies real hard and passes all of the tests, why throw your money away on an engine enema? Just send it to me instead (the money - not the enema)... :-laf
