Been kind of thinking about switching to an auto. Don't really wand to trade trucks, or get another girl, (its her idea, and I would like a DDT equiped truck I think) so kind of wondering if anyone has done this or would like to convert to a five speed. I think the only way to easily do this would be have both trucks and just switch everything between the two. That way everything would work out. Anyone ever done this? Is it practical at all? I have had my transmission out enough times, had it rebuilt a year ago and a new south bend clutch this winter so I have a little practice at the drive train removal. Just looking for some ideas and maybe even a volunteer. Thanks,

Tony:confused:

Anyone ever done this swap, will everything work? What should I expect from a DTT auto, do they preform that great or am I far better off staying with my auto? Any help would be appreciated, Tony

I think Evan Beck has done it.

I've heard there is a lot of work involved. My roommate is switching from an auto to a manual in his 87 blazer and it is a pain. I'm always running him to the hardware store to get a different type of bolt. He's paying my diesel bills though!!!

I don't know why you'd want to do this. I know you don't loose boost pressure while shifting with an auto but is the $$ and time worth it? When you do get crossed over, then you have to beef up the auto so it is like a manual. Doesn't make sense to me, but then again it isn't my truck. Guys around here should be a lot of help if you do it though.

TONY PICK ME PICK ME

Yeah it was done. They took both trucks togther and just swapped the parts. If I remember right it took them about 12 hours to do. There was a thread about it a little while back. I'd love to get rid of my auto. I'm a gear jammer at heart. Mines totally stock until today, just put a TST #8 plate in.

Hummin Cummins, I don't know if your truck would work, hard to say if all the parts would interchange. Do you know who did the swap you are talking about, or the thread? I do plan on beefing up the auto right away, I know if I drove it with the auto stock I wouldn't be pleased at all.

Thanks.
