Anyone into Downloading MP3's should read this!

Someone is sending messages with AOL name on it. The say the credit card won't validate and that you have 24 hours to send info in about a NEW card or the AOL account will be closed. They want all the info on the old card, all the info on a new card, SSN, drivers license #, Mothers maiden name as well as your name address, day and evening phone and other stuff.

It looks pretty much like anything you get from AOL (which isn't much) and has AOL on the top of the form they send. The address of the one that sent it to me was Shadow 223, had nothing at all about AOL in the address. Sure was PO'd last night. Would like to find the scum that is doing this. They will get lots of people on this one. Bad part is it is almost impossible to talk to someone at AOL about this. They are real hard to contact.

I know alot of you do not use AOL but there are still a fair number of us that do. I use them because I travel all over and they have lots of local numbers available.

Yep. Used to get 3 or 4 a day.

Lemme guess, the credit card you had on file had expired and you recently updated your information through AOL.

I thought is was strange that I started getting them after there was a problem with the credit card on file. After I got it updated, I started getting spammed by these scam artists. I would report each one but I never did get a response from AOL about it.

I got suckered into AOL when I bought htis computer over 3 years ago. Honestly, I haven't had a probem with performance since I upgraded to the Broadband service. I've had almost 100% uptime. I have considered changing ISP's to get away from the daily pop-up ads I get when I log on and the spam in my mailbox from my own ISP, but I sure hate going through the trouble of changing my e-mail address on all my online bill paying stuff.

When you open a mail in AOL it says right across the top of the screen

Reminder: APL will never ask you for your password or billing information.

But people still fall for this crap.

I had that happen to me last night too on my AOL account. It made me do a double take at first.

This is a copy of it-

Dear AOL Member,

We have come across a problem with your billing statement. Please update your America Online account information. You have 24 hours to verify that you are the correct owner of this account or you WILL be subject to termination. Thank you and sorry for the inconvience. Update information here.

Yep, thats the one! I actually found it in AOL's list of stuff on security. Was the same letter. Did you click on "here"? thats where all the crap was at.

Stan

I did not click on the link, since I realized it was a fake. I just forwarded the e-mail to TOSEmail1 and to TOSSpam. Those are AOL's place's to send spam.

Seems like I forward around 10 to 15 spam e-mails a day to those e-mail addresses.

On version 8 they have a button "report spam" but I don't think it does anything. I keep getting spam from the same people with same subject lines several days in a row.
