Apple users, I got a ?

I am going to buy a new/used mac book.



Has anyone checked out gainsaver.com?



I am just going to do pictures and music for my iPod. So, I need to know if I NEED a big one or can I get by with a smaller version.



Right now I am looking at this one,

But, do I need that big of processor? And do I need a 512MB memory?

I know that it would be nice, but by the time I buy an airport card and shipping, I am spending more than my wife wants me to.

Gainsaver prices look pretty good. Macs are a lot more money than a PC for equivalent machines spec-wise, but IMHO they perform better and are so much more user friendly and reliable they're worth the extra cost.



Having two Macs, best advice I can give is get as much RAM as you can afford. Never can have too much when you go to run iPhoto or iTunes. The Airport card will pull a lot more battery so make sure you keep that in mind if you plan to run unplugged often. It also uses up some of the RAM, another reason to go big.



The newer the OS the more RAM it will use as well..... I wouldn't go ANY lower than 384mb, best to go with 512mb as a minimum.



The 1gHz processer is fine---it'll be plenty fast with enough RAM to keep the OS happy.



The iBook you're looking at is nearly identical to how mine started out--it's been upgraded a tad, which costs more to do but the computer is rock solid and has never crashed, had a virus, or otherwise been out of commission at all since I bought it.



You might not NEED a larger machine, and could probably get by with something a lil bit smaller, but the unit you linked to would serve you well for a long time.
