Howdy all. Well, here is the problem. I have read almost everything on here about the APPS. My brother in laws truck is a 98. 5 24v completely stock 250k. He lost all throttle response and had only idle. I got the codes 1698 and the 0223. Figured it was the APPS. Have dealt with them a number of times, but jumped the gun on it this time. I got a replacement sensor from TIMBO. Didn't fix the problem.

What it does is this: Clear the codes, start it, and you have throttle response until you hit 1900 rpm. Clear the codes and you can do it again, 1900 rpm and it disables itself again. . Have tried resetting the APPS with disconnected batteries and ignition on, slowly push the throttle pedal to full throttle ... ... ... . and so on, to no avail either. Now, if you try to reset the APPS and push the throttle with the ignition on (truck not running) it will also set the codes when you get so far.

I started checking voltages, but would like a lil more guidance. Timbo has been helping as well, but I haven't been able to work on for two weeks now. The APPS has the 5v supply voltage, but not much else of anything whether it is running, at idle, or up till 1900rpms or just ignition on.

Thanks for the help. I have some ideas, but want to hear what you guys think. I can test anything you would like if you want more specific voltages or anything else.

Thanks

Thomas

Thomas,

Do you have a copy of the Dodge Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures Manual for the truck? It contains step-by-step trouble shooting procedures for the codes.

In looking them over, worst case the P1698 could be caused by a bad PCM, and the P0223 could be a bad ECM.

See attached.

Good luck,

John L.
