I told a friend of mine I would help him install a new APPS or bell crank as some call it, I have a Snap-On Solus scanner(its up to date '05) but I dont know if I can use this or do I have to use a DRBIII, has anyone done this and any tips or tricks are appreciated, thanks... His truck is a 98 24 valve, 5-spd 4x4, no mods.

Disconnect the batteries (pull the neg on both), swap the APPS, reconnect the batteries, turn the key on (don't start it), slowly depress the accelerator to the floor and return it to idle (to teach the ECM the new APPS voltages), and you're done. No reader needed.

I didn't know if I would need a reader, thanks for the info guys, TDR's members are the greatest, and this site is better than any factory service manual I ever bought... :)

According to DTT, this does not reset the APS. They suggested isolating the orange/blue wire from the PCM and testing it for voltage. Then make sure that voltage matches the setting on the APS.

That method only applies to autos. He has a stick.

The DTT method will sync the shift points (PCM) with what the engine is doing (ECM). The ECM can re-learn automatically while the PCM does not. The DTT method of reclocking the APPS sensor is to make sure that the PCM and ECM are on the same page.

Does this method go for 2001-2002.

My girl friends stock 3500 auto Converter is locking and unlocking.

I told here my 1995 2500 stoct was doing the same thing before I changed the TPS.

If she decides to change the APPS then I'll do the Above method.

Rex McKinney 1995 2500 stock soon to have a #6 plate.
