Hey all- Just in the works of getting a ARB put into my Dana60 and was wondering about how these work on axle that do not have the CAD or have on of the full time lock out CAD's that are offered by 4x4 Posi-lock?

Reason I am asking this is that my axle is a 1998 and has the CAD but seeing this is a pretty much dedicated pull truck but still streetable and is also a conversion truck without a vacume system (I would have to have a manual cable unlocking system) Anyway, if I were to just lock the CAD up solid while running an ARB on the street it would act like an open diff right? but it would just spin the drive shaft... not a big deal and I have heard that some like this to keep the fluid moving in the T-case! Then when I am pulling everything would be locked and there would be no 3 wheel drive or me forgetting to lock up the CAD.

What does everyone think?

Thanks in advance... Ryan

Yes - if you lock up the CAD then the axle will run like a 2002 with no CAD.

The CAD collar can still slip off unless held in place with positive pressure. So you will still need a posilock or rig up some other method to keep the shift fork engaged.

Thanks for the reply- I was looking at an older 94 Dodge D60 I have that was out of a mine truck that has a bolt going thru the CAD housing (not the axle housing) to lock it up. Actually just thinking of using that housing to lock it up solid. Are there any disadvantages of having the CAD locked though other than a spinning driveshaft?

Must not be any issues. Since the 2002 MY all 4x4s spin their driveshaft.
