Has anyone gone to arbitration for there 2000 mph vibration around 70-75 mph? If so did you win?

how much did you have to pay etc.

SRH, what year 03 or 04? did you get the hose yet?whats your truck spec's? is it the steering wheel vibe or other?

Vibs

Be nice guys, it was his first post.

SRH,

First, welcome to the group. You will enjoy the B. S. and all the info.

With all the things I have read on the vib, the dealers have replaced rearends and driveshafts. This seems to help most people.

And as asked above, you need to make sure you have the weighted hose that was TSB'd.

I have only read 1 post about someone trying to get a new truck.

Mine is at the dealer now for the third time on this issue in the past two months. They say they got it 90% and want me to drive it tonight. I'll get back with you tomorrow if it's fixed or at 90%. I think I can live with that if it's accurate info.

My first truck was 04 550/sb/48RE/4x4 the dealer tried Changing tires, balancing tires, new drive(made it worse) balanced new drive line, did not change things. They then said it was transfer case-no change. All this time they denied any knowledge of 2000rpm vibe. Took off front driveline-no change. Long story short bought truck 10/5/2003 three weeks later took it in with 3k mi. and now they are buying it back-BUT they are charging me big time for usage mileage 4800. 00, truck currently has 18,000mi on it.

Now that the buy-back was in place I found a 04. 5 with a few extras on it in Co. It was the only one in 48 states like the 04. They said it didn't have a 2000rpm Vib. Did not start feeling until half way home to Seattle. It's not as bad as the 04 which put your foot asleep in an1/2hr.

The first thing on the 04. 5 was Balance the slipyolk-Driveline(both out). Still there not as bad.

Dealer has had my truck for 2 days now for bad u joints. Yesterday they let me take a demo 1500 w/hemi and it has that 70 mph vibration. Never had that problem with mine.

Almost two years has gone by and the vibration problem is still with the 3rd gen trucks (at least some of them). Amazing! My replacement truck does not exhibit the vibration that my '03 had, but I wait with baited breath..... What the h*ll is wrong with this design that causes it (I know that more than one anomaly is at work here).

cardboard in drive line

HI

Well i dont know if this may help ,i was down getting the shafts balanced on my old 2500 4x4 the other day (in Australia) , prior to it burning . and the driveline guy told me a story of one of the big manufacturers having problems with balancing drive shafts , it seemed that when originally manufactured they placed a cardboard V blocker inside the length of the shaft this would move in some circumstances and give drive line vibrations , you could balance it all you liked and then it would move again ,out would go the balance . some vehicles were ok for many miles ,some would do it after 3000 miles . the solution , cut the end off the shaft remove the cardboard , reattach and balance, end of problem

long story ,but somtimes you have to look inside ,not outside the box . good luck

regards Conn

Bottom line,... you can't know this without opening up the shaft,... right?

Hi,

you can sure check it by removing the shaft and shaking it , if there is someting in it you should be able to tell . but before you do that ,

i had a bad vibration problem in my 4x4 ram and the only way i could isolate it was to put the truck on stands all 4 wheels and get it up to the rpm where the vibration was , it ended up being one of the wheels out of balance , they had been balanced 4 times , the fifth time got it right . they had to use stick on weights as the chrome wheels throw the hammer on weights off . i had already gone to the expence of both drive shafts balanced front and rear, lined up the shafts and spent plenty of money on trying to find the problem . my advice is never assume anything
