Skyjacker rear springs?

After the wreck, I talked the insurance company into letting me remove the exhaust brake (Pac Brake) from my 98 12v since they were not going to compensate me for it. I'm looking at a 2000 or 2001 truck this time and need to know if I can use the brake on the new truck. Same brake or do I have to buy a new one?

Thanks,

Steve.

I believe they are different. In fact I am pretty sure.

If you find out you can't use it and want to sell it send me a PM with a price.

Pac brake

Steve: a swap over should work for you. I took my pac brake off of my 93 and installed it on my 01. All i did was get an exhaust adapter plate and a new Switch kit from Pac brake. I have been using the same brake for a total of about 87,000. Good luck---Gary

I hope I didn't come off sounding like I was just trying to get a deal. I have seen where some companies say not to put one brake on a 24 Valve that would go on a 12 valve. I was probably wrong but I though they weren't interchangeable.

The holes in the gate are different sizes!!! I put a 24v Pacbrake on my 12v, but first I enlarged one hole as per tech support at Pacbrake to the size of the 12v gate. Also the 24v trucks come with 60lb exhaust springs, the gate does not have the 1/4" hole for the 30 lbs spring 12v trucks, which you plug when you install your 60lbs springs...

swapping parts

I wonder if anyone has started a 'parts swapping manual' for the dodge trucks? That would be handy at times like this.

Got smoke, I didn't think anything but good thoughts in the matter and I do have you down for first dibs on the brake if a swap won't work.

I emailed Pac Brake about the question and they didn't get back to me. I'm going to call them and try to get a tech on the phone and see what I will need when the time comes.

I thought the 24v's had 12cm turbos which were the same as the 12v's. Why would I need an adapter plate? Would the vaccume switch be the same?

Steve.

I can't answer your question, but you can call Poulsen-Wilson 1-800-547-6313 and ask for Doug or Rod. They can give you the scoop on the Pac brake.

The scoop

Well, I called Pac Brake and talked with a nice tech the other day and here's what I found out.

The brake I have for an Auto trans will work with the 2001 h/o 6speed manual but one for a manual will not. Something about the hole in the butterfly...

There needs to be an adapter plate in between my old brake and the turbo on the 2001. The turbo to brake connection is different and the adapter plate is about $80.

There also needs to be a wiring harness from the vaccume switch to the on/off switch to the computer. This keeps the driver from being able to accellerate with the brake on under cruise controll.

A shifter mounted switch will be needed and now Pac Brake is offering them as well. Under $40 for that.

All said and done, I can keep my brake and for about $170 in parts and a few cold ones ... I can have two retarders in the truck. One under the hood and one behind the wheel .

:D

Thanks for all of the help guys,

Steve.
