In other words... if I have a guage made by AutoMeter can I use any pyrometer sender from another brand, and visa-versa? Or are they brand-specific?

My guess is that the pyrometer sender needs to match that Mfg's gauge. The sender generates a very small voltage due to the bimetalic element inside, and one mfg is probably not the same as the next mfg.

Of course that's a guess, and probably worth what you paid for it!
