Hi. I want to change the oil on my 2015 RAM ecodiesel. The only local filters available are Wicks products. I strongly dislike the local dealer who stocks MOPAR. They never get back to me whenever I call them. Rat *******s! Should I order online or use a Wicks? Not sure if that messes with the warranty. My truck is a 2015 and only has 6600 miles on it. I bought it in July new. I want to get rid of the light stock oil and put Rotella T6 Synthetic in it. Thanks, Herb

If you were to have an engine oiling issue/engine failure youmay not get warranty coverage using an aftermarket filter without a fight. Not worth the risk in my mind

Exactly!!

Magnuson-Moss Act or not, I've seen two OEM engine manufacturers refuse warranty on items over the years because the recommended filter was not used and they stuck to it.

One OEM instance was injector failure on a certain engine, there is still to this day only one fuel filter that I'm aware of that meets the spec. People that chose to ignore that were losing one injector or more per month. I saw it first hand and it was true. You could set your watch by it.

Do not take the chance........stick with the Mopar that is called for.

Hmmm, I use the econ filters at $6.00 OAs at 4-6K miles and my contaminates and wear levels are good OAs $20.00 / $6.00 .. I know of many owners running NON-OE filters and others running OE filter and the OAs could be overlaid. Nope I will feed My mouth instead of FCA pockets in a filter that's over-rate just like the Prom-Queen. Good lube and proper service intervals will yield better results than OE service recommendation's / filters... Life long fluids C'mon.

I don't own an Eco-Diesel however I would have to agree. I have never used oem filters or oil products. For example, my Fiat-Allis grader uses 2 air, 2 oil, 2 fuel, 1 transmission, 1 hydraulic and 1 water filter. If I bought them from Fiat I would be in the poor house.

When we were logging we used Union 76 oil and Napa filters for everything. I buy the oil that is on sale and Napa filters for 7 diesels and 6 gas powered vehicles.

With that said: If I owned a Eco-Diesel I would probably buy Mopar:D

I tend to stick with decent OEM filters on my vehicles, if a pricey filter is going to take me out I probably shouldn't own the thing in the first place.

A fleet situation, hell yes you buy aftermarket filters and hold their feet to the fire if something goes wrong.

I run AC/Delco filters on the Caddy and Yukon, Mopar on the Town and Country, Fleetguards on the two CTDs. I don't find that expensive at all even with my easy access to any brand that I desire.

I even run the BRP filter and oil on the Can Am. A $60.00 oil change for an 800 cc engine BUT I figure BRP / Rotax have a pretty good idea what the engine needs and given that it works its guts out when I'm thrashing it I buy into it.

OP, it's your decision and as you can see there are different opinions and none of them are necessarily wrong.
Whatever makes you sleep better and not give it a second thought is the best for you.

Mike.

If you buy the $50.00 filter VS $6.00/$8.00 you can change lube W-Rebates 1/2 -2/3 intervals T-6 $15.00-17.00 Rams Rec 10K service you can Service 6-8K miles at same cost, that OE filter is NOT going to add any life to your power plant W-EGR, your much better off spending the cost in maintenance. or just save it.

I'm not bias, Example the 6.7 2013+ Engine mounted filter is awesome well worth the extra $, the frame mounted filter is OK and can be replaced with aftermarket.

If you are going to extreme use and Miles the OE oil filters are good, But at the cost of the ED OE filter it's money well spent in other areas of maintenance

The extra $ is BC people believe things W/O checking the back ground running programs. tariffs , trade agreements Etc. and the big one Greed.

Whomever makes the filter for MOPAR probably has a several year no compete clause in return for a higher price per filter. Then MOPAR can charge more for it and get it.

Thermo King has gone far enough that they patented the thread pitch of the oil filter on the Precedent units. That put a stop to it. Sometimes aftermarket filters cause trouble whether some of you want to believe it or not. One Thermo King fuel filter is a spin on used with a head that has four lines. The design is that any suspended crap gets returned to the tank instead of plugging the filter. These things run unattended sometimes for days with valuable loads inside.

Screw a Fleetguard on it and that feature is defeated. We see about one a week in cold weather that has shut down with a Fleetguard filter on it. That fleet buyer REALLY saved some money there....not...

OEM's are not all inherently evil, sometimes simply trying to save people from themselves....

I hear what your saying on the TK, those engines NEED a bypass, the tanks are generally 45/50 gallons, once the return fuel is filtered its good, So after a few hrs the fuel is clean if for some reason the filter plugs the bypass weather it be spring or percentage the unit will continue to run thus saying the costly cargo.

This type of systems needs regular filter changing or pressure gage with warning light to indicate filter plugging.

Exactly!! That is a case where the OEM filter and it's design is really worth the additional money. It all works together for a desired result.

Not saying that is the situation with the Eco-Diesel by any stretch....this discussion just made me think of the Thermo Kings....

All direction injection Fuel filtration must have some type of Bypass on all road use internal combustion engines , Filters must be label for (NOT FOR USE ON INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE) If the filter is possible of curtailing the fuel 100%.

We are talking fuel now, the OP was oil I hope its OK, All oil systems have some type of bypass. the ED filter is spring loaded so if the filter gets plugged the pressure will overcome the spring allowing oil to lube the rotating mass.
