Reading various posts I see a lot of guys with various chips are only seeing EGT's of 1150F pre-turbo. Pulling my empty trailer (6k), I can easily hit 1000-1050 POST turbo. Figuring a 300*F difference for pre/post, I'm running 200*F hotter and I DON'T HAVE ANY BOX ON YET. I have seen EGT's as high as 1100-1150 post, just to see how high it'll go and then quickly back out of it. That's as hot as I could get my '01 with the EZ pulling the same trailer fully loaded (26k), and that reading was taken PRE-turbo.

So I guess my question is: Do the 600's run this ridiculously hot or is there possibly something wrong with mine? The PG7 that came with the X-intake DID NOT help lower EGT's at all. I didn't have the guage in when I did the muffler swap, so I don't know if that made any difference.

TIA

With afe air intake and banks exhaust(muffler) and everything else stock I could get to 1350* pre-turbo empty and no trailer sustained WOT.

That just seems to be the normal temp range I see posted on various sites. From what I have seen and heard the 600s just run that much hotter normally. Probably do to all the emisssions ***p installed.

With my Juice/Attitude I havent seen it go over 1300* yet on any setting, empty.

Installed Juice with Attitude last night

Now I have two EGT probes, Attitude is pre-turbo. On my morning run today I never saw more than 130*F difference between the two. The majority of the time the Pre was only 50-75* hotter. That's pulling 25k+, including one descent sized hill. On said hill, the highest the pre-probe got was 1140*, at the same time the post-probe was a little over 1000*. That was with the Attitude on 1-1. Don't really want to tow that much weight on any higher setting.

So at least for now, I can relax a little. My EGT's are no wheres near as high as I thought they were. Of course, my turbo is still getting plenty hot, but those are cheap to replace... :-laf Hopefully that's a long ways off. I set the "Max Boost" at 32, and there's still more power than I need.

600's EGT

I run pre and post and see around 300* difference depending on load and terrain.

You've got the right start with the air intake, but now follow it up with a nice free flowing muffler and loose the kitty,... if you can. That ought to give you 200 to 300 degrees to play with. Some boxes can help you run cooler by utilizing timing. Another major thing you can do is if you have a auto then put a VB and TC in and enjoy a big power increase and cooler running.

OT,

I'm EXTREMELY happy that the difference I'm seeing is only 140* or so. I thought I was running 1300-1400* on a regular basis, but I'm not even hitting 1200*, which is  . (pun intended) I do wish the post-temp was cooler, but it's the pre-temp I was concerned with.

The intake didn't make any difference as far as I could tell, I already had the post probe when I installed it. I had a performance muffler on until last Fri. I got sick of the drone and put the factory muffler back on, minus a few internal blast holes from a torch. Now it's about back to factory noise level and the EGT's are NOT up 1*. Either I did a good job with the torch, or the "performance" mufler I had wasn't very free flowing. The Kitty gonna stay for now. Maybe when my pieced together exhaust system rusts off the cat might go along for a ride. DOT likes to pull me over in the springtime and sooner or later they'll start checking for that.

I'm starting to wonder about my old Autometer probe. It's only about 15mos old, so it should be good yet. I may try switching probes this weekend and see what happens to the readings.

So far I haven't towed on anything higher than level 1-1. I bought the box for mileage, not play. Of course that never stopped me before... :D

Cattletrkr- I wouldn't rely much on the generic rule betw. pre and post temps. On my 600, completely stock, I can push it to 1450 pre turbo very easily pulling the 4 horse gooseneck. Would likely go higher, but I back out of it at that point.
