I won't bother with the details of how a particular local shop botched up a rear main seal replacement, leaving the carrier bearing nuts loose, or how the driveshaft came loose and punched a hole in the side of my tank the next day on the way to Pennsylvannia...
However, It's now a year later... and the tank has still not been fixed or replaced by this shop. When I first took it back, they put a patch on it which didn't last. When I took it back the second time, I threatened them with a letter to the BBB, and demanded a new fuel tank. He kept my truck for weeks, said he could find no new tank for it, and that there where no used tanks anywhere on the east coast. He "plastic welded" my old tank, instead. When he first pulled it out to "repair" it though, he drilled a drain hole in the bottom of the tank and installed a metal plug. This lasted for a few months, and started leaking. I took it back again and he installed a larger plug. This lasted a month and now its leaking terribly, so bad in fact that it may very well be leaking from the "welded" part as well. I dont know I just discovered it tonight and I'm getting angry.
Before I take this back AGAIN... . will you kind people please let me know if there has been any luck finding used, or God have mercy... new fuel tanks for this truck.
It's a plastic tank, and from what the guy at the shop said its a 1990 diesel specific tank, and they may have had two different styles, one of which he had shipped in only to find out it was the wrong style (of course). Apparently one has a large clamp on pump mount, and the other has a smaller screw in pump mount, otherwise being identical. Who knows, I dont know what to believe when this guy opens his mouth.
I want to wait to see if there are any replies so I can be armed with the truth before I go back and face him down again.
Thanks much...
