I read somewhere that the leather seats in the Laramie package were only leather inserts with vinyl in the front and vinyl only in the back. Tell me this ain't true! Any of you with the leather Laramie, have the answer?

I've got the answer and your not gonna like it!! Only the areas that actually touch your posterior are leather. Everything else is... well... a waste of money in my book. I can't believe they don't offer a complete leather package either  . If they did I would have it. This is pretty much the only thing I dislike about my truck.

With the dogs, I just couldn't see cloth seats. And I dislike seat covers. So far the leather and the vinyl have held up well. As Bert has stated just the seating surfaces of the front two seats are leather. The cushion and seat back facings. The rest is vinyl including the entire rear seat.

If you want all-leather, delete the leather and have the dealer install "dealer-installed leather". They get an all leather kit for a little over $300 bucks and install it on your seats with a price of $1500 to $2000. Usually much better quality than the factory leather. They can also do it to your used truck.

Do like JSIMPSON said. I had the dealer install all leather in my 03. The quality is excellent and it actually matches the console lid. The dealer sold two more trucks just from people looking at mine. I think it cost me about $1100. 00 installed. the company that actually installed it in Kansas City was called Top King.

Ok, so what you are saying is the seatback is vinyl but the back seat seating surfaces is still leather?
Nothing about the rear seat is leather - that is 100% vinyl. The only leather is on the front seat: topside of lower cushion and frontside of the backrest - the rest of the front seat is also vinyl.

Sheepskin Seat Covers

I installed color coordinated sheepskin front seat covers (including head rests) in my '03 3500 drw CTD over the "leather" seats. I bought them on the web from SheepSkin Express for $479. 00. They are absolutely premium quality, fit perfectly, and create an extraordinarily comfortable seating surface that is cool in the summer and warm (even without bun warmers turned on) in the winter. :p Oo.

Well, that certainly changes my thoughts on ordering the Laramie package. With our summer heat vinyl really is not a viable option. My Chrysler Concorde LXi has leather and it is leather front/back and all over. I had just assumed the Ram would be the same.

Sequel,

Hate to break it too you - ALL Chrysler leather seat options are leather seating surface only. Thats ALL Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge products. The pleather might look like the real thing on your Concorde - but I promise you it isn't. Don't feel too bad - All domestics and most imports use inserts. Caddy's, Lincoln's, Hummers - they ALL have 'em. High end imports (Jags, MB's, Lexus, even Subaru's) use entire leather packages. Check out Classic Soft Trim for "custom" leather options. Use perforated inserts to relieve the heat problem. Change the insert color to add eye appeal. You can also have heat added to your seat. I added them to my SLT - quad cab dealer cost is $799. 00 - Have your head rest embroidered with the Rams Head or Cummins logo.

If I really wanted leather, I'd go whole-hog and get a set of Recaros fully covered. in leather or suede, that would give me better seats AND better surface. Putting leather on the factory seats won't necessarily make it a better seat.

In my case, I'll be ordering the premium cloth on my 05 SLT. I've sat in them and find them fairly comfortable, so that's all I need.

i installed leather seats from www.leatherseats.com and was happy with their product. it is full leather seats. took me about 10 hours to get them installed. i will dig up the pics and link to them.

Both my trucks have the cloth seats which in the first week were covered with seat covers. I use my trucks and at times that means DIRTY jeans and hay etc. Now my Gran Marquis with the leather INSERTS is a differant story.

Another good alternative is Katzkin (watch the spelling) at www.katzkin.com. Someone here on the TDR put them in his truck and all the articles I have read say they are a top notch (if pricey) option for leather seats.

You may be upset about the leather not being all there, but keep in mind that the Laramie package includes more then just Leather Seats. You can't get dual zone climate controls or power driver and passenger seats or home link or the heated seat option. In fact when building a hard loaded SLT you get so close to a Laramie that most customers go for the upgrade. Just food for thought. eg
