Looking at shocks - would like to get adjustable ones.

Any idea on the warranty on either of them - has anyone tried to "use" the warranty? And did you have good/bad luck with the warranty?

Thanks!

Dan

Don't think they make adjustable Bilsteins.

Haven't had to get warranty on my 9000's. (knock on wood)

I sure do like the unloaded ride with the rears on soft. When the trailer is hooked up, the rears go on full stiff. Fronts stay about mid-point always.

Bilsteins are non-adjustable, but better quality than ranchos. High pressure, monotube gas shocks are superior in every way. Talk to anyone who has swapped Bilsteins for the off road package that came on Ford Super Duties recently(Rancho). The Bilsteins ride much nicer. We all have opinions though...

I have the Bilstiens on my 96 3500, have over 150,000 on them over 78 years and they are still in decent shape. No need to be adjustable - they just work. If you ahve a problem with them, they have a lifetime warranty - only hassle is you will need to remove them to send back to Bilstein for evaluation - only fair - which means hang on to your OE shocks so that you have something to put on the truck.

If they prove to be bad, Bilstein will send you replacements.

Best money I've spent on the truck.

Not really a fair comparison to the Rancho's that come on the off road package fords, and the 9000's or 5000's. Those are basically a Rancho in name only. Ford guys have replaced them with 5000's and 9000's and noticed a big improvement as well.

I have the Rancho's with the in cab adjustments only because I carry a very heavy slide-in at times. Unless your load varies considerably, I would go with the Bilsteins for ride and quality. The workmanship of my Ranchos was terrible. Two shocks had dents, paint was poor, one in cab pressure gauge had to be reassembled, and the compressor had to be reassembled. No problems sense.

I've heard that the warrantee is pretty poor on the Rancho's. In fact, I heard that they will only honor it with the in cab adjustments as there is a special rubber gasket which replaces the standard gasket. This keeps the internals from rusting.

With the Bilsteins on my car, I had to purchase new shocks from the Bilstein warehouse on my credit card. When they received my old ones (without any questions), they then credited my card for the same amount.
