Does anybody know if they inspect diesel pickups in California for emissions compliance? I understand that the catalytic converter isn't much of a restriction but I'm wondering if I 'lost the kitty' if I'm likely to run into problems, legally. I understand the warranty is voided if DC finds out.

As far as exhaust improvements, what are the recommendations for my 05 325 hp-a turbo back replacement? Is there a good replacement cat that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (if the stock cat is restrictive)

I used to have a diesel VW pickup and I never had to have it checked for smog-is this still done for diesels or not?

Well... .

There's one I know of one CAT Inner's that's been Hogged out with a digging bar. (No it's not mine). It's been reinstalled and looks has if nothing has been done to it. Little more noise out of the pipe.

I'm looking to remove mine all together also. Turbo-Back... Lower EGT's is what I'm looking for.

Magnaflow

I helped a friend install a Magnaflow 5" stainless turboback on his '05 reg. cab. Excellent quality, fit and finish. Too much drone for me though and the reg. cab minimizes it. We had to destroy his stock exhaust to get it off. He looked into 5" Cats in the likelyhood of future Ca. smog inspections and he was quoted $1500. With a sawsall and a little patience you can preserve the stock system for future use. This guy was in a hurry.

They didn't inspect mine. I even brought in a non-California model to California and they didn't care. He just looked at the engine and the mileage. That was at the DMV.
