Back in the late seventies I walked into a grocery store next door to where I was working. A fellow worker, named Elvis but not the same one you might be thinking about, and I would go over there every couple of days and get some fresh fruit to munch on.
On this day I bought two apples and the clerk handed me 2 or 3 of those scratch off cards. I walked away and while waiting for Elvis to check out I scratched off the covering on the cards. One of them showed that I had won $1000 cash. I told myself that I was probably reading it wrong, but I had Elvis look at it and he told me that I was reading it right.
I went over to the store's customer service office and they said that on any winning amount over $100 they had to send the ticket in to their headquarters for payment. They gave me a receipt for it and about a week later I received a check for the $1000 in the mail.
That is the most I have ever won, but I have a nephew whose wife was at the casinos just South of here in Tunica MS who had a total of $18 in a $1. 00 slot machine when it hit for either $464,000 or $466,000, I don't remember which. This was not one of the 20 year payout deals, but one where they received all of it at once.
That is the kind of luck we all wish for!
