Neat. Funny thing is I'll be 34 this week and I immediately knew the answer to 17. I know I know the answer to 2 more I'm just having a brainfart. I guess it shows you what kind of vehicles I prefer. Here are a few more. .

21)What are Dagmars?

22)Why do the lights get brighter on an old car when you drive faster?

23)Where did you check the ATF on a 50 Ford coupe?

24)What does it mean to have juice brakes?

25)Have suburbans always had 4 doors? If not, how many did they have?

26)What does a wishbone have to do with old Fords?

27)What is a babbit?

28)What is a split rim?

29)When did seatbelts become mandatory equipment?

30)Who did the early four-wheel drive conversions for Chevy/Gmc?

I got them all but 21 and 23, and I can't remember if marmon/harrington(sp) who did the Ford or GM 4X4 conversions

I don't have the same answer to 10, 16, 18 and19. 10, the Ford "f" script on the bolts, 16, I think Rochchester was OEM- I was thinking Hillborn (sp), 18, Cornbinder, 19, 76, but I'm not 100% on that one

# 27 Babbit. Isn't this a term that describes a bearing material or type of bearing used on cranks or cams?

# 28, Split rims were an early design truck rim that had a locking ring to hold the tire on, dangerous to service. (Close enough?)

From an automotive publication, what is the "source or root" of the word "Motorola" ?

Somebody help us out, where did the name GMC really come from?

12. There was a “button” to the left of the clutch/brake, what did it do?

HI/LO beam dimmer.

GMC - General Motors Corporation, as far as I know.

Dagmars - the pointy extensions on bumpers and some tail lights, such as used on late 50's Cadillacs and Chevies.

19. What oil co was the first to give away little round balls to put on you antenna?

I thought it was Union Oil (76)

22)Why do the lights get brighter on an old car when you drive faster?

The Generators used at that time would put out more voltage/current as engine RPM increased.

26)What does a wishbone have to do with old Fords?

Keeps front axle in place - sorta like the track bar on our 4X4 trucks.

24)What does it mean to have juice brakes?

A term used for hydraulic brakes - previous, early vehicles use mechanical linkage to apply brakes.

Sometimes being an old coot has it's advantages... ;) :)

OK, how about a couple more:

What make American car had a "Hill Holder", and how did it work?

What American cars had automatic levelers to keep the car body level on uneven surfaces?

Name at least one American car the had one or more head lights swivel with the front wheels.

Another one - some cars had prism-lens looking devices installed on the dashboard near the windshield on the driver side - what was it for, and why was it needed?

Studebaker had hill holder, Packard I believe in 1955 had the leveling system. And how about the Kaisers and Fraziers? Who owned Jeep before AMC? bg

The Tucker Torpedo(it also had seatbelts and pop-out safety glass)

I'm glad someone appreciates this thread besides me.

What does the Olds 442 name stand for?

Where did the name "Jeep" come from?

What were the verticle slots in old car bumpers for?

Who designed the first Volkswagon? And for who?

What is a "gow job"?

Who mass produced the first V-8 in the US?

Why was a Chevy six called a "stovebolt"?

What automaker actually produced a gas turbine powered car?

442 = LESSEE, 4 speed manual transmission, 4-barrel carb, and dual exhaust

Jeep? For initials GP, as mention earlier, standing for, in military nomenclature, for General Purpose vehicle?

Vertical slots = car tiedown slots for transport from factory?

VW - Dr. Porsche, his version of the "Model T" - a "people's car" (Volks=people, Wagen= wagon, or car).

Gow Job - European term as I recall, meaning a shadetree/backyard fix or construction.

Stovebolt - in earlier years, possibly after war when "normal" assembly parts were hard to get, GM used "stovebolts" to assemble some body parts.

Guessing at some, should know first production V8 - Cadillac maybe? (pretty sure it was NOT Ford), but forgotten that one, as well as the turbine question.

Wasn't the first production V8 Chrysler's 331 Hemi in 1953?

No, Ford had the V8 as early as '32-'33, and I'm sure there were some even earlier, but mind gets fuzzier back further than that... :-laf

Caddy had the first mass produced V8 I am thinking prior to the 20's.

Gary... . You asked a question about a devise to see the stoplight?

I do believe that Union 76 had the bulbs for the antenna.
