Are you receiving popups for new PM's?

Yes now as long as I let the page load. When the other server that was causing the slow reply problem last week was the main one I wasn't recieving pop-ups.

Only about 50% of the time - lotsa times, I leave the TDR and go check my regular Email - then find there is a message for me back on TDR... At least the Email notification part seems to work. I wonder if my popup blocking software is stopping the notifications here - it didn't use to...

I said no in the poll but went and looked and found the pop up was turned off. I just turned it back on.

I am notified by email. If I am on when the message comes through i seem to get notified. But if I am not in when the message is sent when I do log on I do not get a popup.

Well, now I remember why I turned the popup off to begin with. I keep getting a popup after I already read and deleted the message. Says I have a new PM yet when I go there the PM system says there are no new messages to read.



I just turned the darn thing back off.

none here for a while. i've been going back to user control to check now and then on my own.

also not getting all the email notifications about pm's and sometimes i will get 5 notifications for the same pm. i have also received email notifications that i have a pm "from" **ICEMAN** ,,i go to check it out and it is a copy of a pm i had sent to someone else. checked all my settings and they are correct.

Steve, John and I have been playing around with this feature today. I received one after scrolling around through many pages on the TDR. The second one never occured. He has yet to see any? They use to appear instantly after opening the "discussion page".

Okay Steve, some observations for you... .



Logged in, cookies enabled and profile is POP-UP enabled too.



If my TDR webpage is minimised , but loaded, I don't get pop-ups. If the same page is full-size, along with other applications, a pop-up happens. However I get the email notification from my ISP in the UK as quick as a flash, yet my direct notification from the TDR seems to be hit and miss... ... and more miss than hit?

No pop-up and no email notification. The whole PM notification system is a soup sandwich from this perspective.....

I never get a pop up. Now, I see that Paccool had turned his off. I never did because I have no knowledge of that function. Could it be that mine is turned off and I do not know it? I investigated my user control page and could not find an on/off swith for the pop up.



Probably should change my handle to ignorant slug. I plead guilty to being totally ignorant.

Well, obviously a lot of people aren't receiving them. Now I have to narrow it down some. First I need to hear from those that are not receiving them - are you on dial up or a high speed connection? What browser are you using? Do you let the page load completely when you first come to the site?



Here's the problems with the PM notification popup - and there's nothing I can really do about this. Because that's java based it is the VERY last thing to run on the page. So let's say you come to the site on the forum list page. Maybe the ad is taking some time to load and you click on a forum. You've now missed your pm notification because the page didn't finish loading. Also it will only notify you on the first page that you go to after you've gotten a PM. So if you miss it on that first page you won't get it on a second page. Another thing that will happen with the multiple PM notifications is lets say you go to the first forum page and get your pm notification, you then read the pm, go back to the first window and click on a forum, read some threads, yada, yada. Then you click on the back button to take you to the forum list - you will get the notification again. That's because when you hit the back button your machine loads that page from the cache in your computer - of which the notification is a part of.



I'm on a high speed connection and as such the page loads very fast. I always get my PM notifications in the pop. I have missed it a couple of times though when I was at a client on a dial up connection and was impatient in waiting for the page to load.



Help fill me in on some of the details and we'll see if there's any commonality here that I can look into.
