If you read the handholding post I put up you will see that I'm in a snit about my fuel pressure dropping below 5 psi under full throttle and high rpm. I have only now discovered the problem as I just installed the BD low fuel pressure LED. Here is my question. The truck runs just like it has for the past 52000 miles since new. If the fuel pressure is only dropping below 5 psi under full throttle and high rpm which is a condition my truck rarely is at, that means that 99% of the time my fuel pressure is at or above 5 psi. Should I still be worried or just watch to see if i get the warning more often under less demanding situations?

Are you sure your filter is clean, and thats not causing a restriction? On three different occaisions my pressure had droped to below 5 at WOT. On each time I dtermined it to be the pump I replaced the pump. It started to drop again, and I moved the pump.

Check everything with an actual gauge. If the numbers you suspect to be true, in fact are, change the pump.

Or, go to another lift pump "solution". We all have our favorites!

Sageair, I know if I were driving your truck the light would have burned out by now as I drive it like that 99% of the time :-laf .

I think they should of called it a "BDiot light" :-laf

I'm just poking fun. Your just doing what everyone else does when you watch you FP for the first time.

5psi at WOT probably isn't bad if you truly only drive like that 1% of the time.

If it were mine I'd buy a new LP, check the pressure again and if it is higher, great, problem solved and you now have a decent spare in an emergency.

If not, ... ... ... ... . well, lets see what happens with a new LP first.

Good luck... ... . Jim

My truck ran fine. Had "dead pedal" very briefly a couple of times but otherwise it ran the same as it always had. I was at 93,000 miles on the original lift pump and I was getting 9. 5 psi at idle and about 5 cruising. I went ahead and replaced the lift pump at my own expense since the dealer "couldn't duplicate a problem". I now have 15psi (or geater but limited by gauge reading) and about 12 psi cruising... . and a little more piece of mind.

Sageair, have you upgraded your lines and fittings yet?

R-N-R has a good point. My pressure would drop below 5 psi on a WOT run. Something I almost never do except to test new BOMBS. I replaced fuel lines from the lift pump forward. (the banjo is still on the lift pump inlet) & my fuel pressure now only drops to 8 psi under WOT.

Thank you to all who replied. What a great bunch of guys, I wish I could buy you all a beer. After reading and thinking, thinking and reading, It looks like the Vulcan big line kit and the pump relocation along with a new pump is the hot ticket. It should fix the problem,I'll have a spare pump and be able to replace it easily roadside if needed. Once again thanks to all. Steve

Yes! Now go away!!! Just kidding :) So I guess the dealer said no dice for a new LP? I've been wondering and can't recall from your other post if you have gauges? I think you have the light connected post filter but, have you ever observed actual FP? I have a test gauge I bought some time back from one of the fellows here. It has a long enough hose to easilly connect to the filter top and run under hood and squeeze between the door and jamb in the hing area then tape on the dash for road/WOT observation. I think I paid like $25. 00 ??? for it. It's still in the box I received it in, I only used it "maybe" twice - I have no use for it anymore since my LP is on the frame at tank now & I'm gauged If you want it PM me and we'll figure a sweet deal for ya.
