I saw this in the Indianapolis Star. Wonder if this will extend any waiting periods, or slow down production? This has been cut and pasted directly from the Indianapolis Star website.

Plant drug test leads to firings

Associated Press

GOSHEN, Ind. — About 40 employees at a plant that makes travel trailers lost their jobs after they tested positive for illegal drugs, company officials said.

Keystone RV Co. Inc. tested all 120 employees at Plant No. 304, one of the company’s 20 plants in Goshen, after receiving a tip from police. Nearly one third of them tested positive for either marijuana, cocaine, amphetamine or methamphetamine during the plantwide drug screening April 11, the company said.

Testing positive for one or more of the illegal drugs is grounds for dismissal at Keystone.

Keystone, which makes travel trailers and fifth wheels under several brand names, is a subsidiary of Ohio based Thor Industries and is the largest employer in Elkhart County with about 3,000 workers at all of its plants. The company also has two plants in Oregon.

“There was some feedback from the police that one of our plants was having troubles with drugs. We responded to this,” Keystone president Ron Fenech told The Truth of Elkhart for a story today.

Company spokesman Ken Julian said it was the first time Keystone had tested all the workers at one plant at the same time.

Workers at the plant about 20 miles east of South Bend were sent home for the day with pay after occupational health care staff took urine samples from them. The factory resumed normal production the following day.

A police officer was on hand in case of problems, but Julian said the tests went smoothly.

“It was a very cooperative group of individuals,” he said.

Workers were informed of the preliminary test results immediately, and the samples then were sent to the South Bend Medical Foundation for confirmation, he said.

“Those who tested positive were put on unpaid leave until we got confirmation,” he said.

Well that explains it, been waiting over 2 months for my trailer and parts. Keystone Sprinter. Was getting ready to tell the dealer to stuff it. Too many broken promises, can't track shipping, etc. Guess I'll cut them some slack. Trailer looked to be built nicely, we'll see.

What a shame

Man thats a shame!!!

Drugs and alcohol are the key ingredient to the down fall of society. We here in the energy industry also have a zero tolerance policy, and for obvious reasons. I know I personally would not want a trailer built by someone who was impaired behind my truck which would put my family in jeopardy not to mention others on the road.

Get those bad apples out of there and give the jobs to the people that really need them.

the word is WANT, the jobs should go to people who want them and then stay with those who deserve them.

A 33% positive rate is really surprising in this Amish/Mennonite area of north central Indiana!! Has there been an influx of "out of area" workers into these shops in response to the RV sales boom?

I wonder how the rest of the manufacturers in this area would test out? It really makes one wonder about the "Amish/Mennonite craftsmanship" claims... .

I pull campers & we were told not many loads available because of quality problems at Keystone. It must be affecting other manufacturers, as far as testing/firing, because there are hardly any campers to pull right now.

Picked up the trailer yesterday... ... built in OREGON. So what does that mean? I dunno! Everything checked out nicely at the dealer, got home, everything checked out. Doing a shakedown trip in a few days.

The Oregon built Keystones I have seen (I was seriously looking at Cougers) seemed to be well built to my somewhat untrained eyes. Hopefully you will get years of satisfactory service out of it. Oo.
