Rushing to a meeting this afternoon at a large government complex, I had to search to find a parking spot large enough to park my dually. In a hurry, making sure I had every thing I needed for the meeting I lock the door and realized the keys were still in the ignition. :{ This is only the second time I locked my keys in this truck. The last time I had to get a locksmith. Couldn’t break-in with a wire like I could in my old Ford. At this point I’m freaking out because this facility wont let anyone in without pre-authorized clearance and a thorough FBI background check. Parked next to me was a red ram 1500 and the owner was just getting ready to leave. He picked up on the situation and offered his assistance. I asked him if he had a Slim-Jim. He said no but he had a Dodge Key. He put it in the door lock, wiggled it up and down a few times and the lock popped open. Man was I a happy camper. Oo. Oo. Oo. He said Dodges were noted for this, what ever this means.

Now I guess I have to add an alarm to the mod wish list.

:--)

Holy cripes, this is not good for the city folk:eek: I am not trying to rub the wrong way but out here in ol Wyo I leave the keys in the ignition so I wont loose them... ... ... been doin it that way all my life and I bet some day I loose a rig but at least the crook will be haulin ace in style and he will be saying holy cripes this rig hauls butt:eek: and he will be so proud he will call me and ask what the hey I did to the rig and then to make a long story short he will bring the all mighty Cummins back to me , we will drink a few beers and I will take him to town to buy a new Ram and he then joins the TDR and all live happier ever after :D ... ... ..... Kevin

At my work location we have 3 installation vans, all Chubbys.

I found out one day that the door key for my work truck works perfectly on one of my co-worker's trucks, not in the other though.

Coincidence?

Any lock just keeps and honest person honest, barely slows a thief.

Kevin, glad to hear I'm not the only one. Most every time I take the keys out of the ignition I lose them.

This reminds me of the Buick Grand National convention they used to have in Bowling Green, KY a few years ago when I lived there..... My company had the electrical contract for a bar/restaurant renovation in the Holiday Inn there, and we were lucky enough:D to witness the general hilarity of several guys accidentally finding their key opened & started the wrong Grand National. If memory serves me correctly, there were at least 3 cars at that one hotel that were "keyed alike" :D and they found several more at the drag strip get-together.....

One of the guys in the Holiday Inn incident got halfway across town, started looking for his sunglasses, and found things in the car that weren't his. Oo. You had to have been there ! It's even funnier because the cars all look alike.

Hrm... We'll have to try this with our Corvettes the next event at the Museum... . Interesting, very interesting... Makes me also wonder about VATS

Illflem, Whitmore. . you guys can always have a ride here in a very quick CJ 7 with a stroker 383 or my wifes ML320, or My mildly BOMBed CTD, or a couple wave runners, or my snow plow FJ40... my keys are always in the hole also, helll I think ol#1 thats wrecked and parked down on the lower road has them in it.

aren't we glad / lucky we don't have to be to worried about the theives in very rural America

From what i heard form a source at GM. Most car companies are only required to make 1,000 different key combinations but are installed randomly. What that means is it is VERY likley that you will find somebody with the same key as you. PASS keys changed alot of that as far as ignition goes. But doors are no problem

Keys in the ignition...

Nope, you guys aren't the only ones who leave your keys in the ignition. We do it over here in Idaho too, well, not in the big city areas (Boise, etc. ), but it's in general not so you don't lose 'em. Around here, often you're out working on a fence or irrigation line, etc. , and someone needs to move a tractor or something through the gate you happened to park in front of. So, having the keys in there just makes life easier all around.

My brother lost the keys for his Blazer out four wheeling one time, we then found out that my Blazer key fit just fine. Works great when he parks blocking the garage, too. Don't know about the door keys, though, since neither one of use uses the doors much (they're sitting beside the house).
