I am getting ready to order some custom made springs and had alwasy been told that the drivers side spring was different to account for the wieght of the driver and fuel.

After getting under there and pulling the stickers down to get the numbers, they bear the same number (unless the sticker is not the part number).

Did I inhale too much exhaust???:p

Kev

Skyjacker sends different rates for 1/2 tons, but sends same rates for 3/4 and 1 tons. I dunno... mine are fine. No more than 1/2 inch difference on all 4 corners.

When I had my 2 1/2" Skyjacker lift installed a year ago, I kept the OEM coil springs and all 4 control arms. My OEM coils were model 46 (driver side) and 39 (passenger side) if I recall correctly.

Tom

front coils

on the 3500 you could have the same number on left/right. Depended on the model and what options. 2500's had different numbers because they are not set up as a 1 ton.

The stock springs are two different rates. The drivers side will be a heavy spring than the passengers. Most of our truck have 046 driver and 039 passengers. Quad cab 6speeds with teh plow prep and some others will come the 047/046 combo. The skyjacker D25 2. 5inches springs are the same rate but I have seen no sign of the truck riding unlevel. It does make sense to have a stiffer spring on the driver side as the fuel tank, steer mechanism and the driver on all on that side.

Thanks for the info- Are the stickers on the springs the part number?? If so then mine are the same. That is more what I was wanting to know.

Kev

If the sticker has a 0XX number large on it it will tell you what you are looking for. The three options are 039, 046, 047 on our trucks. Can you post the numbers that you are seeing? They might be the actual DC parts numbers but there should be stickers that are blue (I think) that have the 0XX number on them. They were on the springs of my 98 when i traded it in so they are pretty durable stickers.

Ted

My stickers are green and blue #'s 047/046 and it is only a Reg. Cab 2500 . The springs are determined by the options that were ordered on the truck .

I did see a few Cab Chassis that had dual 048's on the front though.

Sorry Thomas yes the Chassis cab can and often does come with 048 but to my knowledge it is not on none CC trucks. 6spd and plow seems to come with 046/047 regardless of cab. Auto and plow often comes with 039/046.

Kev do you have the snowplow prep group?

Ted,

I think your right, a friend has a 1 ton stock with 39/38 on the front, ETC/Auto. That's the same as my 2500 came stock. If I'm not mistaken the quad cab auto's came with 39/38, with plow pkg it was 46/39, the ETH's came with 46/39, and the plow pkg was 47/46.

Kev,

The part #'s are on that sticker as well but the 038/039/046/047 are the hugh numbers on the sticker. Run the vin at the dealer and check the front spring codes on the printout to see if they are the same or different. Maybe it was a factory mistake. With the spring code do a search on this site as they were posted here once. I think I read here once as well that someone else had the same springs on both sides but I don't remember why.

Ted , Maybe you can answer a question for me. For a while I have been trying to figure out what springs came w/ what options.

I have seen a few Club Cab trucks that were 2500 5-speed w/ NO -snow plow prep pkg and they had 046/047 springs. Than I saw a very similar truck 2500 5-speed w/ no snow plow and it had 046/039 springs. While another w/ an auto had 039/038 springs. The only difference between the first two trucks were the gear ratio- the one w/ the 046/047 combo had a 4. 10 gear and the 046/039 truck had a 3. 54 gear.

Does the gear ratio help determine what springs a truck gets?

My thought is that certain options bring up "red flags " during the build and that determines which spring options that go on each truck .

What are your thoughts on this ???

Thanks ,Thomas

Thomas knowing the years of these trucks out help. my truck 2001. 5 eth/dee, QC LWB 4. 10lsd, camper group, no snow plow prep came with 039/046 combo. Mactruck's 2001 auto QC SB 3. 54 lsd with snow plow prep came with 039/046. I am almost positive a ethdee with the plow prep is an automatic 046/047 because that is the heavist the front of these trucks gets because of the weight of the transmission. A regular cab auto w/o the plow prep group is as light as you get in the frnt and would have 038/039. 5 speeds are a mistery to me as they seem of come with the same combos as the 6 spds but sometimes have lighter springs.

That 5 speed with the 046/047 could be they had to many heavier springs at that time in the factory or someone screwed up. It would be interesteding get info from a huge group of people on year model info options and spring combos to see it a pattern could be determined

Ted - Both of those trucks had rear disc brakes so I assume that they were atleast 2001. 5's. The 5-speed truck had the Camper Special Pkg. and I think that the other one did too .

Will a truck have a 5200 lbs. weight rating on the front axle if it does not have a Snow Plow Pkg. ???

Thomas

I left the numbers at work so I'll check them on Monday:rolleyes: .

However- I did check the VIN printout I got from the dealer. The Spring codes for the truck build sheet are differetnt:

ZFGP - Left Front

ZUGP- Right Front

The numbers on the stickers from the springs, while I don't have them in front of me were the same number. Maybe it was a build mistake.

I do not have the Snow plow option, I don't think it is even available on a 2wd. I do have the camper special and trailer tow and heavy duty service options.

Kev

Well the 4X4 coils are on the way, so I'll report as soon as I can get a few hours loose to put them in.

Glenn

Here is a list of spring rate info if anyone is interested.

Wrong link.

Why didn't someone correct me that somehow I really messed up my link. Brain fart. The correct link has been posted below.

Kev,

PM Alaskaskiff with your spring codes: Left Ft = ZJGP Right Ft = ZXFP. He can cross reference these to the 0xx tag on your springs. Also the 0xx is the last three digits of the part #. So you could always have a parts guy look up any spring for your year make and model then replace the last three with your three digits.
