Seems like maybe the photo radar units may have stirred up some other things. I removed my Rocky Mountain Cummins license plate frame today that has been on the truck since new in 99:{. The new law effective Jan. 1 is that the word Arizona needs to be visible on the top of the plate. If it is hidden or obscured you are subject to a 100. 00 dollar fine. I am taking a guess that the picture the photo radar takes with the word Arizona narrows down the search so they can mail the fine out faster.

Get a slim-line type licens plate frame and one of those clear plastic covers to keep your plate clean, make sure the clear plastic has horizontal lines, the horizontal lines screw with the camera and mess up the entire license plate number, no tickey at all!!!!!

Here is a link to the new law

Arizona License Plate Law - License Plate Frames

One of the problems is it only covers Arizona vehicles. I am just a little ticked because that Cummins frame has been on the truck for almost 10 years and now big brother wants it removed. I usually drive at no more than 5 mph over a speed limit except in residential areas where I drive under or at the limit. The photo Radar does not give a warning like an officer may give, it only gives an instant citation. If you recieve one of the 8 x 10 glossies and just toss it they add the 180 dollar fine to your next vehicle registration. I just want to make sure that anyone in Arizona and on the TDR knows about this new law. As for my frame it is residing on the shelf and I will survive. Truck looks different now because I am use to seeing that frame. By the way, they have a picture of one vehicle at 130mph +.

you guys in AZ are on the right track, getting the petition going. The firm that designed that thing is in Az. We had the same thing and battle here in Utah, West valley to be exact. They had it for five plus years, and the city lost revenue because of it, no one would go there and shop. The way it was defeated was through the courts and petitions and the want to be faced by your accuser. It went bye bye. And it did not deter speeders. They just avoided the city. And it was operated by the cites finest.

Good luck!!!!!

Good thought AK, you like having the speed Nazis run your life? In Arizona the Gov has admitted the cameras are nothing but a money maker for the state. A tax without the peoples approval. I don't drive much over 5 mph so the cameras don't take my money. . It's the principal of the idea. A BUNCH of the money goes to the contractors who are really pushing this stupid idea.

Non-violent intervention??

Santa impersonators wrap radar cameras in Tempe.

As a note, this afternoon I was down at the local American Legion. Out of the twenty cars and trucks in the parking lot at least 1/4 had soon to be illegal license plate holders. The state is not doing enough to announce the new law..... guess Gov. NoPlanAtAll is looking for the extra income before leaving for DC. Oo.

What a great idea. Albuquerque's full of those red light cameras.

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone.

I'll be blunt: I don't have much sympathy for people blatantly breaking the law ("bending" it, i. e. 5 over speed limit, that's a little different). I'm not keen on government surveillance in general, but if we're talking about cameras that look just for license plates, oh well, so be it.

Whose fault is it that "speed nazis" can do this? If/when the people get tired of it, they will complain. Believe it or not, laws do get stricken off the books. I know, it's a rare event.

Fines do not equal taxes. It will only be a moneymaker for the state if people continue to drive excessively fast where the cameras are. Obey the law (or do like most of us, yourself and I included, and go with "close enough") or move to have it changed. It's like red light cameras. I've seen accidents happen b/c people run red lights, and frankly, ANYONE, MYSELF INCLUDED, who runs a red light, esp. intentionally (and I'm not talking it turning red while you're in the intersection) DESERVES what they get, where red light cameras are concerned. I have ZERO sympathy for that reckless behavior. We obviously aren't going to pay to put a cop on every corner, nor should we. This is in reality, way less intrusive than more cops. The camera is impartial. I'm not suggesting we put one on every corner, or down rural stretches of interstate.

We have the "obstructed view of license plate" here too. I have no sympathy for people who run red lights. It has got to the point that most motorist don't even stop at stop signs and you can sit at an intersection with a red light and two or thre cars go through after the light goes red almost every time in heavy traffic times. bg

AK, The people are complaining in AZ but The Gov. will do nothing, as I stated before she has already admitted the cameras are for revenue purposes firstly and speed control second! elected officials can not control their spending, can not raise more taxes so they will FEE you do death,

A citizens initiative is now in the works to kill the cameras, more power to the people WHO ARE SUPPOSE TO CONTROL GOVERNMENT, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!

I also have no sympathy for red light runners or folks who speed excessively, that's why I pay TAXES to hire state troopers and county sheriffs, I don't need nor like a private company in cahoots with the government controlling my life, think about it, what's next... ... ... ... ...

And I'm all for that. That's what we have to do: take back "government of/by/for the people. " But rampant and unchecked disobedience to law makes a mockery of it. We get the government we deserve.

I guess the camera's will make it just safe so all the cops can speed driving around waisting my tax dollars. Those guys make me sick. Can get away with just about anything. Who's going to give them a ticket? A highway patrol officer killed a girl here in vegas about a year ago doing almost a 100 mph for no reason at all.

As far as the camer's go, I was in pheonix the other week and all the cars just slow down for the camera's and then speed back up. Waist of money. It must make that 200' of highway the safest highway on earth. Get the government off my back!

Take back your government. Demand accountability of Law Enforcement.

The Photo radar units are all over the place, now. Our freeways are loaded with them. At night, you see the "flashes" all the time & lots of them. Many of these are stationary units.

During the Thanksgiving weekend, the State had portable units stationed every 20 miles along the major freeways crossing the state of AZ.

The portable units are being placed on a lot of surface streets, also.

I don't mind actually getting caught by an officer as much as a camera. I can see the point of those that don't mind the cameras but, I worry about when the government will start to think that its OK to put the cameras everywhere. Where do they stop? Inside your home? Your bedroom? It's like "Big Brother is Watching"!!!

Those that seem to lean to the Left don't seem to mind these intrusions. I do!!!. Where does it all stop???

BTW, I don't speed much at all. I'm 62 & have never had a speeding ticket. I realize that some government involvement in our lives is necessary but, less is better, in my opinion.
