9' camper in shortbed truck

Right after New Years, myself and a buddy are going to Arizona. I have a slide-in and pulling our motorcycles in a trailer. I have reservations in a camp ground but much of the time we intend on touring the warm southwest on our bikes and the rig will just be sitting there.

I heard that there are some places in Arizona that are free to camp. If I could find them, it would be less expensive when we are gone for several days at a time.

Sooo, my question is can anyone tell me where in Arizona there is free camping.

Thanks

Bill

If your slide-in is self contained you can use BLM land just about anywhere in the state.

For 3-5 miles N, S, E and W of Quartzsite it looks like an ocean of white RV roofs reflecting the sunlight. Do a search for “Quartzsite, AZ” and check out:

http://www.rvtraveler.com/quartzsite.html?OVRAW=Quartzsite, AZ&OVKEY=az quartzsite&OVMTC=standard This site also has information about the BLM permit.

The Yuma area (go west either side of the I’state to the AZ/CA line) or (north on the CA side to the Imperial Dam/Senator Wash area) for other BLM properties.

There are many BLM areas on each side of the Colorado River that you just have to look for. Remember that if you purchase a BLM permit in one area it is good in the other BLM areas.

Many of the Casinos in Laughlin, NV allow you to camp “free” in their parking lots. We prefer to drive south of Laughlin about 10 mi. to the Avi Indian Casino and park in their “free” (“free” as long as you don’t gamble, then it can get EXPENSIVE! But lots of good inexpensive food!) parking lot or use the lot just across the road to the West.

If you stay in the Laughlin/Bullhead areas be sure to go to “Oatman” a ghost town on the old highway 66.

For the Tucson (south or south/west) area try the Pima County Fair Ground. No restrooms but full hookup’s $15. 50/nite. Check out their site: http://www.swfair.com/

Probably a search for “BLM property in AZ” would yield a lot of information.

Have fun, probably see you out there this winter. Let us know what you find/do.

south of AJO......on AZ hwy 85....

which is south of Phoenix, west of Tucson, BLM land before entering Organ Pipe Cactus Nat'l Mon. also putting you in close proximity to a run south of the border to Puerto Penasco, Son. MX about 80 miles away... and this area is not nearly as crowded as the western AZ. /Quartsite area.

happy wandering... .....

I want to thank all those who replied. This is a great web site. Hope to see some of you when we get there. Of course I will have my Patriot Blue RAM with a Coachman Slide-in. A red enclosed motorcycle trailer attached. License in Pa. And two Harleys with Pa plates. If spotted please say hi.

Thanks again
