I see there is a lack of discussion concerning the new ISB engine here @ the TDR. If we are supposed to be boycotting this change, I failed to recieve the memmo. Sorry in advance.



The article appeared in a monthly trucking magazine. I dun threw it out so cannot quote it word for word.



The 6. 7 ISB has replaced the 5. 9 ISB (as you know) and will pass 07 emissions. Equipped with 335 hp and 770 lbs ft of torque I think it said.



It's odd that the forum has been ignoring this. Then again, it don't excite me all that much as I'm a 12 valve fan.
 
It's been discussed in the 4500/5500 threads and in the 3500 cab and chassis threads. Not a lot of solid info on the 6. 7 specs at this time.
 
Check out Steve's article on the 3500 Chassis Cab intro. DC said the 6. 7 is not going into the MY07 pickups. However speculation is that it may find it's way into an 07. 5 intro, much like the 24Vs back in 98. 5.



What's to boycott against it? It also comes with a 6 speed auto!
 
And we should boycott the 6. 7L because why? I guess I missed that memo too... ... :-laf The only people that should be boycotting anything are the 6. 0L guys.

It should be boycotted until someone can come up with ways to (1) turn off the EGR, (2) remove the Particulate filter (i. e. cut it out); without turning on some damn computer lights.

I totally agree :{ Hopefully there will be someway to bypass 1 and 2
 
if it werent for the 07 emission changes, we would probably still have the 5. 9's. what do you all think?

If it weren't for emission changes we would still be stuck in the IDI days, or 1st gens...





Same with Flat Head 6's, and Small Block Chevies with 2 bbl carbs, and 2 valve heads...

There is no replacement for displacement! Get to know the new engines before you hate them. #ad
I'm sure in time there will be advantages/modifications to the new engines despite all the EPA stuff.


And just in case I'm all wet on this one I'm sure somebody's all ready workin on the p7100 conversion:-laf
 
Think about this, 10 years ago auto makers (gas type) started working the engines with computer controls. Today, we have some very strong cars that get good econmey and very good performance. I am of the opinion that our beloved Cummins engines along with other diesel engines are at the point of evloution to better performance similar to where the gas engines were 10 years ago. When have you seen Cummins take a step backwards in the development of their product :confused: I don't think they have ever moved in a negative direction with respect to the performance and quality of what they build and what we enjoy. I seem to remember that they met the emmission standards set down by the Feds before anybody else and still retained the best fuel economey with power. So why would we need to be worried about this :confused:

It may take 10 years - I think we're just where we were say about 1973 when the big engines went bust'o with smog controls - remember when a 454 and 440 could only put out a little over 200 hp and they were gutless and drank fuel and ran like crap... ... . No Sir - I think that's about where we may be - maybe not that bad - BUT not a Voluntary Step towards improvement.....
 
I found the articles.



Fleet Owner magazine says the engine will offer 325 hp and 750 lbs ft torque.



Light & Medium Truck Magazine says it's 305 HP @ 610 torque. This article mentioned that the Diesel transmission will be a six speed "Aisin" auto. What's an Aisin?

Big blocks lost all thier compression in 72-73 so they could run on lowlead gas, the manifolds and heads got restrictions, the cams got flattened and carbs leaned out, but the comp. loss killed them. I look forward to this bigger motor because it points towards a 1 1/2-3 ton truck that Dodge has not produced since 77 and is sorely needed, the commonality could keep prices down versus stocking and installing a 5. 9 and lets say a 8. 3. Cummins doesen't make much junk but if this new motor becomes the next triple nickel, it's not like 5. 9's will become rare. I wish they could have come up with a better alt. than a jap transmission but I would buy a stick anyway.

I got this from the news release on Aisin's website about the transmission.



1. Product Name: 6-Speed Automatic Transmission for Light Duty Trucks

2. Characteristics: (1) Improvement of operational performance and fuel efficiency

(a) Fuel efficiency as well as acceleration and driving power is improved by optimal gear sep up, adapted both a new developed torque converter with multi-disk type lock up and a sophisticated gear train arrangement (3 to 6-speed closer gear ratio)

(b) When a brake pedal is stepped on and stops, a gear will be changed into neutral automatically. It enables to improve fuel efficiency by reducing engine load.



(2) Improvement of engine braking performance

(a) When exhaust brake is used, the new automatic transmission controls braking force in accordance with driving speed, road inclination, and vehicle weight by automatic selection for the combination of gear ratio and lock-up control system.

*the world first development for the light duty (2-4t) commercial vehicle

(b) Improved the life of brake pad because of less number of applying foot brake.



(3) Compact-size as 4-speed automatic transmission

By adopting a sophisticated gear train arrangement and less number of components, this 6-speed automatic transmission becomes compact as the conventional 4-speed automatic transmission as well as secures the durability corresponding to use of tracks.




(1)(b) looks to me like you would not be able to power brake with one of these. I see a new rash of people installing line lockers in their trucks.
 
Dont worry about Aisin transmission. It is is part of the reason we all shake our heads at toyota pick ups lasting so long Who cares if it comes from Japan if it in combination with the other parts make it the best truck for you and me?
 
All you have to do is disable the brake switch at the brake pedal to power brake.



I think there will be too much torque management to get much brate torque out of these behemoths.
