Hello everybody,
Newbie here. I will make a fair attempt at being as brief as possible in my introductory post. I have been a fairly avid reader/lurker since last spring. During this time I have acquired valuable knowledge and insight into what I have known for quite some time to be the ultimate pickup truck. The '89 4X4 auto is still around as a farm truck.
I decided I "needed" a better truck than the '96 Reg. 3/4 ton auto 360 gasser, in dire need of a TPS, track bar, etc. The TDR was the first I had heard of the ETH/DEE, although Dodge and Cummins were already the "non-optional" items on my list. I have been researching and watching developments to dictate my "goodies" selections. I will try to avoid bombing as I would like to save money for a house.
The reasonably recent post on the Tekonsha Sential brake controler helped me out. I otherwise have had 8200 trouble free miles since September 26th. (One of them thar Mexican hombres, built on August 30th) I will admit, however, that I am now on the list for the nationally back-ordered center console, with the temperature sensative tabs. I also have the un-limited slip... I understand it is not a locker, but when going around corners or starting in our driveway on gravel/ice... well, let's just say I probably could have used the $285 on something else. My dealership did the torque test and said it was "well over 30 lbs. (min)". They are going to order up another clutch-pack for it though and "see if they can tigten it up". I figure I might as well let them try, I won't be loosing anything. Oh, I had the 3rd gear "clash", which I would describe, not as any gear grinding, but rather results from a very narrow 3rd gear gate... I still get the clash if there is wheelspin at shift time. No transmission noise though. Getting winter-time, 11 miles to work, backroads-to-avoid-most of the salt, mileage of about 17 right now.
OK, I have rambled enough. Thanks to everyone whose experiences I have learned from thus far. I feel my $35 was well spent.
Chris
P. S. Fireman Dave (and others) I almost was going to try to make the rendevous, but had too much going anyway. I would be interested in the next semi-formal meeting and I can probably drag a few others along.
