I got the ASA intake from PDR yesterday and installed it this morning. I had a lot of trouble trying to attach the AFE cone filter to the intake. While trying to hold it in place, attach the mounting hardware, and tighten the clamp it kept slipping off. After getting someone to help hold the filter in place we finally got it to stay in place. Does the K&N filter hold on the tube better? After taking it for a drive i could,t believe the turbo whine that comes from the ASA, way more than a K&N in the swiss cheesed airbox. It sounds like a jet motor under the hood. I would strongly recommend one of these systems for anyone who likes the sound of a turbo, not to mention the cool looks of the intake and filter.

Have you compiled any other opinions or changes in numbers of the pyro or boost gauge? Any seat of the pants changes in power?

I am running a swiss cheesed box with a stock filter and want to get an ASA. Maybe an after christmas bonus.

hi folks,

i have one or two photos of the asa intake, as well. i am running the same set-up as rdodd. i haven't experienced a fitment problem with the afe filter and the asa tubing, so i can't help on that one.

and, yes, the whistle is devine! i love to put my foot in it just to hear it! :D

cheers,

roy

I don,t know how the K&N filter fits on the ASA intake tube, but i noticed with the AFE the filter has to be pushed on all the way and the clamp has to be placed at the outside edge of the inlet of the filter. Otherwise, the clamp kept pushing the filter off the tube when tightening the clamp.

I can,t tell for sure any difference in pyro temps or cool down times since i was running a K&N in swiss cheese air box before the ASA but the turbo sounds are now much more obvious with the ASA intake.

hey guys... ... .

Simply clean the portion of the intake tube and the I. D of the aFe filter (about three inches in) with a rag wetted with a cleaner. I used staring fluid cause I like the smell. Then the operation is a one handed affair, aka easy as pie. :) The rubber portion of the aFe must have a light film of oil from oiling the filter element at the factory.

Case closed.

Ive been told that water isn,t a problem moving or standing still although i don,t know from personal experience. I did purchace an outerwears pre-filter that is suppose to repel water but outerwears told me that the water repelling capability wears off over time like in about a year.

The AFE filter is a little harder to fit on but if you place it on before the intake is on the truck it makes life easier. As mentioned make sure no oil is on the rubber end of filter before install and clamp tight.

Got to love that turbo whine. :D

what kind of turbos are you guys running? I hardly hear a whine. It is there if you are listening for it. But if you where to get in unbeknownst to the upgrade you probably wouldn't notice.

I could barely hear my turbo before i put on the HX35 turbo from PDR. After removing the silencer ring the turbo whine really came out, and then adding the ASA intake made the turbo sound like a jet motor spooling up.
