Trying to tie in a guage light--want to use ash tray light---how the heck do you get back there with out tearing something up!!!

Did a search, but could not find remove procedure!! Tried to use wire on light switch(recomeded by Geno's) for guage install---It had constant power on it!!! Have meter, and can follow directions pretty good---HELP!!!!

I think the bottom middle wire on the dimmer switch is the output you need. Get a straight pin, some allegator clips and your meter, and you should be able to find the correct one by poking into the back of the connector while moving the dimmer up and down. The pin will reach the metal inside the plastic connector without piercing any wires. Maybe another member can help you with the latest wire color codes.

the ash tray light is constent power, not dimmed. the easiest access is at the dimmer switch. there are 2 orange w/brown tracer wires there. one is ground return, and the other is the power to the dimmable lights. i can't remember the pin numbers but there are only 2 orange w/brown tracer wires there so you don't have to back pin many times to find the dimmable power source

thanks--Geno's directions called for the (orange with brown tracer) for 2004 and up yr model. There was (3) orange wires---tried all 3--none of the others had Voltage on them!! That wire (org/brn) had constant voltage on it--not 12V, but 4. 0V--and it caused my light chime to come on--with the lights turned off!!

So if I can figure out how to tie into the ash tray light as others have---that would work also!! Rocky

just looked at a 05 wiring diagram, and there indeed looks to be 3 orange/brn wires there...

3, 4 and 6 look like the wire plug numbers. #6 pin is the one you need [wire E2 20g orange/brown tracer]

thank you--everyone who helped!! It is the #6 pin----I had tried that wire yesterday--I must NOT have had a good connection!!

When looking down at the back of the switch---holding the plate--like it goes back in the truck---you have (4) wires across the top---then on the next row--you have (2) empty spots, (on your left)THEN a org/brn wire --THIS IS THE ONE!!! then another org/brn wire----hope this helps someone!! this on a 05----Rocky

Rocky, thanks for the update.

I have a complete set of DiPricols coming this week. I am installing fuel pressure in a SRT/10 A pillar, then trans, rear diff temp and oil pressure in a windsheild mount triple gauge pod. :-laf

The TDR info has been awesome for me to decide which way to go!!

Cheers, Bill
