Hello TDR Members. We are scheduling a meeting (TDR writer, Andy Mikonis is the point guy) at Chrysler's Kokomo, Indiana transmission facility during the next several weeks to discuss the new-for-2007. 5 automatic transmission - the 68RFE.

There is your chance to ask your question(s) about their new transmission.

We will take care of all of the basics - ratios, size, weight, etc.

Be brief. Post your questions below.

Why is the 68RFE allowed to shift into 5th and 6th gear at such low speeds (40-45 mph) as to cause lugging of the engine (1100 rpm and below) and slow throttle response (2 to 3 seconds of turbo lag with the rpm that low)? Is there any plan for different programming in the future to prevent this?

Who actually designsed it? inhouse? Asisin? where are the parts made? Is it a multi clutch converter? Thats what I want to know.

Thanks

My '85 Corvette did the same thing - for emissions - an aftermarket chip fixed it right up... ;)

It's actually pretty dangerous with the early upshifting, because on a slippery surface, if you try to accelerate rapidly, the transmission will instantly drop a couple of gears, take off like a scalded Ape - and maybe cause you to lose control. It did with my Vette, and scared the daylights outta me and the salesman when we instantly went sideways on a freeway onramp!

I'd really like to know if the downshift can be softened when it's in "TOW/HAUL", or changed.

With the E brake in the on position, if you lift off the throttle, the truck will try to bring itself down to a stop.

I'd like to see this downshift seguence only happen IF the driver has his foot on the brake pedal, then it will know that the driver wants to stop. As it is, if you are going down an incline, in traffic, it's a real pain in the *****. I find that I take it out of "TOW/HAUL" ,until I remember some time later, usually on an uphill when I want the upshift delayed.

I'm hopefull this could be done with a software change

thanks

Mods?

I'd like to hear their opinion on the after market mods like Banks, Juice, Bully dog etc. and the affects they have on these trans.
