how do i get the clutch fan off i don't see an obvious way to hold it so i can turn the nut and which way does the nut turn? the motor has no belt on as it was hit and broke the idler, the motor is going in my85 chev thx Dana

There is a special wrench that holds the heads of the bolts that attach the pully to the hub. It's basically a pattern of holes in a plate of the proper shape with a handle. Once you get the pully secure turn the nut CW as you look at it from the front.

You should be able to borrow or rent the tool from a local parts house like AutoZone. I know when I did my kdp, I used their tool, but it wasnt' the best. The wrench kept slipping off the bolts.

a piece of flat bar with a hole drilled in it to hook over one of the bolts works for me, if it's absurdly tight make it so it fits over two bolts but it takes a little more work to get it to fit

I use an air chisel. Spins it right off.

I have used a rubber oil filter wrench... . placed it over the pulley and then just get the right size wrench (I forget what it is off the top of my head) and loosen it. It might take one good crack with a hammer on the wrench to break it loose... remember its left hand thread (so turn it the oppisit way you normal would)

I used a large channel lock to hold the fan hub. I think the wrench size is 36 mm ,Don't remember for sure.

made my own wrench and welded on a 3 foot handle, then used a pair of those vice grips with the locking chain instead of the jaws to hold the pulley/hub in one spot

lots of good ideas ,thx . already tried holding the pulley with a strap wrench, i think i will take a piece of flat bar drill some holes and bolt it on using longer bolts,although hooking it over the head of the existing bolts sounds easier as long as it does not wreck them . Dana

two pair of vise grips... one clamping the pulley and allowed to "wedge" and the other on the nut. easy.

That what I do everytime and it works. Make sure to wear eye protection and turn the nut the correct way.

I got the 36mm wrench and found the same problem, and ended up using the end of the wrench on the corner of the nut, hitting it with a 4 lb sledge. like the manual air chisel method basically
