I am trying to switch ATF to synthetic and have so far been unable to get more than 6 qts of the old fluid out of the transmission -- even using the much-discussed method of running the engine briefly with a cooler line diverted to a bucket. The pan has been down over 24 hrs now. Any ideas on replacing the remaining 11 qts of ATF up in there with the new synthetic?? An additional note: Trans temp ~ 100 deg, only way to get anything out of the cooler line was to put it in gear (transfer case in neutral, e-brake set). My truck is a stock '96 2500 4X4.

Thanks for the tip. I loosened the larger bolts (11mm socket) and dropped the valve body about 1/8", draining out another gallon. Now I am up to 9. 5 qts drained, which leaves 7. 5 still up in there. Should I also loosen up all the torx-head screws? How much is going to stay in the torque converter?

You're about there. Mine drops 10 qts sitting overnight (anti drain back valve removed from trans line). Changing the TC was the rest.
