Putting in my new transmission (goerand) sat. Was told by builder I can use either. What's the real difference between ATF3, and +4? If I start with one, can I not change to the other later?

These trannys were built on ATF3, ATF+4 wont hurt, but its usually more expensive, so why pay extra? ATF3 probably is going to be very hard to find also, as all the new stuff runs +4... You can mix them, no problem. Just dont mix atf3 and dextron without an additive. .

Just dont use straight Dextron, but you can fill with the cheaper dextron 3, and use a product called LubeGuard in the black (not red) bottle to modify the friction of the fluid. Probably should use 2 bottles on our trannies. . its a bit expensive, but also contains lube enhancers to renew old seals etc. . (which you dont have to worry about methinks)

good luck

Off on a different path I run Ford fluid in my DTT transmission, it grabbier... . if that is a word.

Nothing wrong with your running ATF3, Dave definately knows what he is talking about!

i was told to run dextron 3 with 1 bottle of RED lubguard that i could only find at 1 store in my entire area. i was told atf4 is not what is cracked up to be and it wasnt recommended for my dtt trans

amsoil atf

I like amsoil synthetic atf. Put a drop or 2 on a metal plate and use a propane torch on the bottom to heat it up. Try this with amsoil and them what ever eles you want. see how much the others smoke up... its a iteresting test. I have NEVER lost a trans with it and anything i use it in..... I use it in mt drag car that runs 10's in the 1/4 as well. It lasts longer too. It stays red. Just a thought. Look on the web and draw your own concusion. It works very well for me.

My DTT installer used Dextron III, he said its recommended by DTT???? I've always used ATF +4 in the past.

All atf+4 is-is a synthetic blend, or synthetic (depending on who you talk to). You should have no problem going from one to the other, but, i've always believed that when you go to a synthetic, or synthetic blend, that it would be the wiser to stick with it.
