I was talking to a friend of mine who owned a turbo diesel, I just got back of vacation and was pulling my boat (10,000 lb), at 2200 RPM I began to get a miss in the engine. He told me that it sounded like the injectors and that he used to pour the fuel filter canister half full of ATF when changing the filter to clean the injectors, he said it smoked some initially but he never had any injector problems after 300,000 miles. Has anyone tried this and could it damage anything?

For what it's worth, I used to work for a company that had an office next to a school bus maintenance garage. They used that technique when the busses started smoking. ( they hadn't invented the patch yet :-laf ) Not sure about the details, but not the first time I've heard of it.

YOur signature didn't list a fuel pres. guage. If you have one, what were the presures when it started to buck. That sounds very familiar..... 89k I lost the VP44, but prior to that I had some intermittent bucking.

I used diesel injector cleaner, and lucasoil fuel treatment when I changed my filter today.

I also realized I made a mistake last time. There were 2 o-rings on the old filter!

My truck must of been pulling air, because she runs like a raped ape now. :)

Here's a better idea. . . fill the canister halfway with fuel conditioner. Someone tried this about 4 years ago and posted it, noticed an improvement immediately after. Your injectors will probably be happier for it too compared to doing ATF.
