atf in fuel filter ?

I always put a quart of atf in my fuel filter when I change ,done it for years on big trucks so I kept on doing it with this one. Anybody have any thoughts on this subject. I always understood it was a good injector cleaner.

I will only put good quality fuel in the tank or filter, along with a good quality additive.

Save the atf for the transmission.

transmission fluid was never meant to burn, you would be better off getting a diesel conditioner and putting it in there.

That stuff was not meant to be burned either as a fuel or an additive. It can leave deposits, and or result in injector wear/fouling.

I also agree with the suggestion to run a good diesel fuel conditioner. Our pumps are cooled and lubed solely by fuel flow. You want to strengthen that protection with a good additive under those circumstances.

Yes, not in a diesel , but...



My son heats his shop (auto repair) with a waste oil furnace. The manufacturer told him that the 2 hottest fuels to burn in it are brake fluid and atf.

Of course there is a pre-heater in this system. Furnace is made by "Black Gold" .

Just thought I'd throw that in here for what it's worth!

Interesting Subject

I was told that ATF is a good conditioner/cleaner for the injection system. So,,,,I did a test to determine this for myself. [Never believe everything you hear]. Well I ran this diesel tractor for a length of two summers with ATF as an additive. By the way, this test ended after two summers only because the tractor had lost power and was smoking. Upon removal of the injectors, the pump shop found several of the holes to be plugged.



I don't want to burn any oil in the diesel as I'm convinced it leads to plugging of the tips. Prior to my experiment the injectors had been cleaned and calibrated.
