I just got a 2001 Qcab and am going to put a new trany filter and ATF in it what are you guys useing? Should I put a trans temp gauge in or not I pull sometime but not lost. But I love to go and go fast. Its is still stock but some day it will not be

I would say if your gonna be there, than put in the gauge. or at least the fitting for it. the trans arent the best so its a good idea to moniter temo even being stock, or at least imo. I have used dodge stuff so far and am looking into whch amsoil will work if any.

I would recommend Amsoil. Never used it in an auto, but am very happy with their other products and will always use them. #ad

ditto on the amsoil ;) I use it in everything and am very pleased with it. They make an atf +4 that I run and am very happy. I have a trans gauge and pull and push snow. Trans seems to stay quite a bit cooler with the amsoil.

Don't waste you money on a temp prob in the transmission pan. Put it in the line to the cooler. Call DTT they will fix you up with the line and extension to reach the cooler. DC says ATF4+. SNOKING

Use Redline C+ ATF Expensive but has higher viscosity at temperature and higher temp limits than Amsoil. Expensive but is made from Polyol Ester base stocks - nothing better. My . 02

you are right and there has been a discussion on oils. and we have kind of come to say that in our race cars red line makes a better transmission fluid. allthough I beleive both are ester stock based.

Amsoil,ATF = TC Shutter

Changed my ATF to Amsoil and the TC started to shutter under load. Called DTT and they said to add Lubeguard in the red bottle. Fixed the shutter and yes temps dropped in the trans. by 15 degrees. DW

Trans fluid

Dextron 3 and add one bottle of Lube Guard in the _BLACK bottle. Thats what I use buy the cheapest or the most expensive its all the same. Thanks Steve B.

I tried every fluid in my '02 before finally rebuilding it. You should run what the factory specifies in a factory trans. It honestly works better than the aftermarket stuff.

I had terrible shudder with all the synthetics. Going to ATF+3 worked best, but was grabby. A little lubegaurd and that seemed to be the best compromise.

I now run straight ATF+3 and it works great. Of course, there are different components than stock inside the case as well. And this includes the seals too.

There is more "slip" or friction modifier in ATF+4 than the +3 stuff, so you'll have to use your best judgement.

I agree with the DTT line. It's an older model (96?) hotline with a DTT braided line that replaces the factory rubber unit. It's a direct swap and gives you a place to monitor true trans temps. In the hot line.

You could put a sender in the case, but this will be way off. Or in the pan and it'll always be low and or much slower to show an increase than the outlet line.
