Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) ATS 3-Piece Manifold Install

I yanked off my stock exhaust manifold tonight and will be trying to install an ATS 3-Piece manifold, is there any pointers or suggestions for putting the manifold together and installing on the truck? Is it worth porting the manifold prior to install? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Oo.

I port matched my manifold (both inlet and outlet) and HX-40 housing prior to install. The manifold is set up for pretty voluminous flow so the port match is all I did.

Cap bolts

I am going to try and use the bolts that come with the ats amnifold, how much do i torque them down to?

Torque

Exhaust Manifold bolts 32 ft lbs.

Before you try to mount the manifold, chase the threads using one of the old bolts. Why? Because the new ones will go deeper into the holes than the old ones and it(new bolt) might not thread in deep enough. {been there, #6 :-{} }

I used never-seize on all the bolt also, have not had any problem with them loosen up either.

Going to put in a EGT probe? Now is the time to do it also.

This should be emphasized. If you don't have an EGR gauge drill and tap a 1/4"NPT hole anyway and put a plug in it. The new manifold has a nice flat spot for it and you'll never have an easier time getting all of the chips out than before the manifold is installed. I think that the manufacturer should have provided the hole, but they didn't.

Manifold is Together

I put my manifold together last night it was really simple, i clamped my old manifold into the vise around the turbo flange and bolted the center section of the 3 piece manifold on to the old manifold and antiseezed the ball flanges and used a sledge hammer and a short piece of 4x4 and i held the end piece of the manifold and my brother hit the 4x4 and about 4 hits the holes were lined up and repeated the process on the other side and presto, hopefully tonight i can get it installed on the truck and get it fired back up. Oo.

Manifold Install

I got the manifold on now i need to get a allen socket with the ball on the end so i can torque the bolts down. Looking at the two manifolds side by side you would think the ATS manifold would have to flow alot more air than the stocker. Oo.

ATS 3-Piece Manifold

I got the manifold torqued down tonight and ported the turbo exhaust housing inlet, wow there was alot of grinding to get it gasket matched, there won't any restiction now!! Oo.

Up And Running

I finally got everything buttoned up tonight on my truck and got my ats manifold and prime loc installed and all is well again. Thanks for all the info TDR!!! Oo.
