Well fellas, after getting my truck back from the shop with the fullybuilt Suncoast transmission, and it now feeling under powered, I went and ordered a turbo. I really wanted compounds but unfortunately my wallet and wife didnt agree:rolleyes: I did some research and think i did ok by ordering the ATS3K. Someone please tell me i will see a big difference in power and i didnt make a mistake by not going with BD or PhatShaft.

The ATS 3000 is a 59/65 as compared to your 60/60 stock turbo. The 3K will spool a little quicker and have a little more air on the top end. But a turbo doesn't add more power, fuel does. A turbo simply adds the air needed, so without more fuel you won't run any cooler. So unless you increase your fueling you won't see any difference in power, but your mid rpm tq may come on a little sooner.

ATS advertises this turbo as good for 30hp over stock, and it flows about 850 CFM, vs the stock 809CFM.

It reffers to the compressor and turbine wheel size. It is the smallest part of the wheel, so on a compressor its the inducer (intake) and on the turbine its the exducer (exhaust). So a 60/60/9 (Stock 04. 5-07) has a 60mm inducer, 60mm exducer and a 9cm2 housing. Typically the bigger the number the more air that can flow.

The HE351 has a 60/82 comp wheel, and a 68/60 turbine wheel. The A3K has a 59/83 comp wheel and a 74/65 turbine wheel, which is how it gets a little more flow and lower drive pressure, the exhaust is less restrictive.

on your 06 truck you are going to start randomly throwing p0299 codes. the ats 3000 has a 14cm2 housing and the ecm thinks you have a leak. for us that tow the 3000 is a very bad choice, at low rpm like when getting started the turbo can not produce enough boost and you loose a huge amount of very low rpm torque. it does not spool up faster than stock. if you play with your truck and add large amounts of fuel the 3000 is good for that.

BD does not publish volute sizes AFAIK. The best a friend of mine could figure out the super B is about 12 cm. It is excellent for stock fueling, and will give some FE benefit. I would also recommend their manifold, it is a split volute design, just like the turbo.

I read over and over that the Super B is a 14? But even still a 59/65/14 shouldn't spool slow enough to get a code, by maybe it does.

spooling is not what set's the code off. the ecm constantly monitors the manifold boost to rpm and fueling. if it sees a pattern of lower pressure to fuelling it thinks there is a leak. this was incorporated for emissions control. if you think about it if you are on a 1,000 mile trip the stock turbo would be say at 8 lbs pressure where the big housing would be at 4 or 5. the split volute that bd uses is more efficient than the ats. and since it is just borderline for the ats i would not expect as many codes from a bd

Then that would be the case on any modified turbo that drops cruise pressure and this is the first I have heard of it. Even your truck with the 62/65/13 would fall into this category as HTT claims the flow of a 14 cast housing.

So if I understand correctly, I will only gain marginal power and throw codes. Not exactly what I was hoping for. Sounds like I just wasted $1500 unless I drop another $1800 on injectors. Bummer.

I highly doubt you will get codes with that turbo. Like I said, turbo's don't add power (unless your blowing black smoke WOT) on any rig, they make room for more fuel. So you will run cooler EGT's with the same power. Your probably close to maxed on fuel with the XZT and the A3K for towing, probably more room for fuel for play.

well i got the turbo installed. Wow, it really did make a difference! It is a bit slower to spool than stock but not by much. I havent really been able to push it more than 60mph but so far so good on the turbo. Unfortunately the brand new transmission went out on me already. On my way home i lost reverse. It would only back up if i was over 2K on the tack. Then the next day it had no forward gears at all. Its now back in the shop.
