Just a short note regarding any stories or experience with the purple transmission.

I am considering a stage four installed over in a shop in stockton ca by the name of collins diesel. any info regarding this would be greatly appreciated. thanks crew

They seem ok, though I have never considered them because there's no way in hell I'd put a purple transmission in my truck

i have the full package with the lockup commander and i've been very impressed. i wouldnt have anything else. the only way you get it purple is if you send your transmission to ats in co. and they build it for you and paint it purple. if you having a shop do it, they usually just order the parts and build it there. thats what i did. J&G transmission did it for me.

Go DTT..... you'll be glad you did :D

Better do your research, there is a new guy there by the name of Wade who says he is taking care of customer service now and I hope this has changed things. My first ATS trans lasted 3 months, it took almost three more months to get a replacement. When my replacement arrived it had second gear starts and had to have parts sent by ATS take it back apart and fix it. I really hope that it is together for good now but I dont have much faith in it since my "brand new" Transmission had a bad solenoid and had to be taken apart again. If I were to do it all over again I would have stayed with DTT. Hopefully everything is changing up there like Wade says now that they have a good customer service guy all they need is some more quality control people.

No Way

I had researched trannies and vendors extensivly and initially decided on ATS. Before I got mine I reccomended ATS to two people. One of them went to Collins other had one installed down south. Both trannies failed immediately and both guys got screwed and jerked around for a long long time. NO way to ATS... . Both guys spent big dollars and got screwed. Now I am not blaming the ENTIRE mess on ATS as there was some screw ups by both of the installers but ATS left both of these guys high and dry... .....

I am 100% happy with my GOERAND bros trannie. Dave went way above and beyond what any business has ever done for me!!!

transmission ats

delivered and installed with 100k valve adjustment 7300. 00 for the stage four billet with co-pilot installed. this truck will be on the trails with an outfiiter apex camper in the bed from baja to alaska.

My 96 CTD Ram had 3 different “Purple” ATS transmissions in five years for a cost of over 8 thousand bucks. Every time it took it in they told me is was something else was wrong (not their transmission) and charged me huge additional sums but the problem still turned out to be the transmission and not the “other” thing they charged me to replace and was not really bad at all. Finally, when I realized that they utterly ruined my truck and I would have to purchase a Goerend or Sun Coast Transmission I decided to trade in the 96 on a 2005, I lost my @$$ on that deal. It’s the worst money I ever spent, EVER!

Well, I've been very happy with my purple trans for about 2 1/2 years now. Only mistake I kick myself for was not getting it with billet shafts. So far have not needed that though. I worked through a local ATS dealer/installer and am very happy with the service I have received to date.

I am from the rockies and a long time fan of what ats has been doing. I just thought I would put the question out there to get some feedback. I really appreciate all the good and bad. I will be having collins do the install, as I need to get back to colorado. I hope to share the great stories of chasing waves from baja to nor cal. out.

I have had excellent customer service from ATS, they bent over backwards for me. I ordered the "purple" transmission and 5-Star converter from them and installed it myself, I still need to put in the Commander. So much to do---so little time :(

since you are in california i would give J & H diesel a call,Joel is a transmission guru and have great customer service!!

I would go with Sun Coast Converters. I have had mine in for about 4,000 miles and love it. My friend showed me the Sun Coast trans in his 97 dodge and i've seen the hell he has sent through it for over 100,000 miles and he has never had any trouble. I just took a tour of their shop and it looked top notch. They build their own converters in shop. I saw a lot of cores and there were quite a few of the purple and black converters there. Just my 2 cents worth.
